I'm using Mint 22.3 and needed to import some pictures from a Canon ELPH camera. When I connect the camera via USB I get a window titled "Canon Digital Camera" with a folder titled "DCIM". I can't seem to open this folder. When I try "open with" VLC I get an error message "VLC is unable to open the MRL File://run/user/1000/grfs/gphoto2...) (etc.).
So I booted up Windows and got it done from there (Pictures sent to customer via E-mail).
I searched and found "Rapid Photo Downloader" and "Digikam" and I'll bet there are others. What do you guys use to simply import photos to your Pictures directory? Wouldn't Linux have a native program to accomplish this very basic operation? -Thanks! -BA

right click and select view in image viewer, [ this works with android, IOs Fuji and most other cameras, Linux does not distinguish make and treats them as USB storage devices.

If you can't open the folder, that's possibly a permission issue. You can first try opening it with sudo.

As you're using Mint, it's likrly sudo nemo. Once that opens the file manager, you can try to access the camera's data.

if it's some sort of weird file format, as images can be, you may also look into XNViewMP.

Thanks guys. I decided to try "Rapid Photo Downloader" ( sudo apt install rapid-photo-downloader ). Works like a charm and even a dumb a$$ like me can use it. -BA
