You CAN Teach an Old Dog New Tricks!

Welcome to the forums,
many of us are the wrong side of 70 and even more the wrong side of 60 we even have some members in their mid 90s

Good to know. I always associated Linux with 20 something geeks! LOL!!
Heh. Thing with most of us is that, because a lot of us are retired, we've got not only the time but at our age, also the patience to methodically work our way through this stuff, solving one issue at a time.

With young'uns. if summat doesn't work as expected at the very first attempt they quickly get discouraged and give up. Remember, the present generation of youngsters seem to have very short attention spans.....plus they're burning the candle at both ends AND trying to cram 26 hours into every 24!

Just think back.....and remember what you yourself were like at that age. :D

I've gone ahead and moved this to 'Member Introductions', as it suits that sub-forum better than this one.

That said, welcome aboard!

As for our ages, we skew heavily to the 'older' side. While we do have some younger users, including kids, we're kind of old. If your age is correct, you're about a decade older than I am. Heh... Remember when we wanted to be the oldest person in the group? Ah, the vagaries of youth...

We have at least one member in their 90s, I'm pretty sure. If not, they're really close to that.

Anyhow, welcome aboard. We're the friendliest general-Linux forum on the 'net.

It's been said that keeping the brain active is essential for older folks. I can truthfully say that messing around in Linux has certainly tested my mental faculties, such as they are!

Yes, but try not to overload your brain, if you do what happens is burnout, which is what I'm experiencing.

I used AI to explain burnout to me and all symptoms it described match, one very annoying symptom is lack of motivation for anything, and what's the worst it can take months or years to 'cure' burnout, it requires staying away from activities that led to burnout.

I like to challenge my brain on a regular basis. Sure, I learn new stuff every day. I learn all sorts of things in a day, though it's not always beneficial to anything I'm doing. But, more importantly, I like to challenge my brain. By that, I mean I like to learn something that's not easy for me to learn.
