My first concert had a story behind it.
1972, aged a little short of 15, and our National Broadcaster, ABC had a phone-in competition on a Sunday morning.
It was called The Bleeper Competition - they would bleep out a couple of words from a snatch of music.
I heard it as "Me and bleep and a bleep named Boo".
I rang and got through and said "You and dog", and won tickets to the Carpenters at Brisbane's Festival Hall.

The original "Calling Occupants" was from a Canadian progressive rock band who took the name of Klaatu, who was the alien portrayed so wonderfully by Michael Rennie in the iconic film "The Day The Earth Stood Still".

Yes i vaguely remember, it was used by one of the Pirate radio stations in the UK to mark the night transmissions

My second concert was 22 Feb 1974 - Slade - again at Brisbane's Festival Hall. I was having a love affair with music sliding from harmonic pop to heavy metal rock.

The amount of work that had to be done for that concert to proceed was incredible.
A little less than 4 weeks before the concert, Brisbane had been devastated with a once in a century flood that saw the Brisbane River expand to submerge all of the lower CBD.
The picture below shows the flood waters receding, and you can see Festival Hall on the right near top.
Festival Hall had to be dried out, and the electric supply triple checked and then some.
Slade reputedly had enough equipment to fill 7 semi-trailers, and made the noise of a Boeing 707 on takeoff.

You know, one of the things I love about this thread, and this place, is that the members around my age and older will pop up with tunes I heard 50-60 years ago, and would not have remembered for all the tea in China.

Glen Campbell deserves to be better known, especially in the guitar community. He's one of the greatest guitarists to ever reach stardom. It is my opinion (and I've been a classical guitarist for more than 50 years, so I'm kind of qualified to say this) that he's better than Hendrix.
It annoys me greatly when people say that Hendrix was the greatest guitar player. From a technical standpoint, I can name a ton of guitarists better than him.
Credit where credit is due. He could play the guitar and he was an excellent performer. His playing influenced what must be millions of people, including a ton who are famous guitarists themselves.
I just don't think he was as skillful as people credit him for. For example, check his live performances. He was unable to play the same thing twice and had horrible timing. His backing band was able to adjust for this though it becomes more evident when you hear him play with other guitarists who do have a working sense of time.

Style has nothing to do with technique, on the technical level there are many more competent players,
you can tell when a player is very good, when his compatriots wish they could emulate them.

But i've just begun and it's like opening the Pandora box: so many more follow all the sudden and i can't revive all those memories at once! I dunno, it's hard to choose but try Black Lab, Brian Ferry, or more recently Reinhardt Buhr... Even Anoushka Shankar for a bit of exotism, etc. Ah, and the records with shadow dancers crack me up, especially Psychlona's 'Blast Off' i'd say, but i may have mentioned this one previously.
