@KGIII :-
We have a guy like osprey over at BleepingComputer.....goes by the handle of JohnC_21.
He mainly helps out with Windows issues, since this was always BC's "raison d'être" from its founding in 2003.....but he's also pretty knowledgeable with Linux, too. He's been there getting on for 13 years now, and has nearly 40,000 posts to his credit. He always sticks with a problem - "sees it through" - and has an almost 100% 'clean-up' rate.
The kind of member ANY community worth its salt would be proud to count amongst its number.
During that time frame, he's been asked on numerous occasions if he'd like to join the staff.....and every time, without fail, it's always a polite "Thanks, but no thanks. I just want to stay as I am and carry on helping people". (You can almost hear the unspoken rejoinder; "Please stop nagging me about this, and let me get back to what I'm good at..!")
New BC "Advisors" (members who've been recognised as being especially helpful) keep bringing this up.....and every time we have to explain that they're wasting their breath even suggesting it!
I can absolutely understand where osprey is coming from, AND why he's declined, trust me.
Mike.
I have to decline your nomination for a number of reasons though. The main one is that I'd rather be just a subscriber than take on official responsibilities. I don't think I'm well suited to the "controlling" aspects of moderation, if that's not too strong a description associated with the role. I'm not confident that I could devote the time commitments to the role either. So, thanks again, but I'm happy in the bleachers
