Here's a rendition of Chisel's "Flame Trees" from Sarah Blasko.

Nostalgia time, this hit the charts around 1969/70 [around the time I started doing my bit as frontman] it always brings back good memories

I adore Dave Gilmour, love his music and his voice.

He is also to thank for discovering and mentoring the inimitable Kate Bush.

What I didn't know, is that he has a daughter with a musical bent as well, a different stringed instrument, the harp. I shouldn't be surprised...DNA.

Here is Romany Gilmour with her Dad.

And another one with the Gilmours.

And we also have Matthew Gilmour, David's son (4th born of eight children)

All his kids

Alice Gilmour – the firstborn who chose a completely private life.
Clare Gilmour – born during The Wall era, yet living far from fame.
Sara Gilmour – a fashion stylist and editor who found her own voice in Milan’s style scene.
Matthew Gilmour – a musician who battled cancer, survived, and released his own album.
Charlie Gilmour – David’s adopted son who went from prison headlines to acclaimed author of Featherhood.
Joe Gilmour – an award-winning theatre director shaping the UK stage world.Gabriel Gilmour – a creative actor and designer who even appeared on Downton Abbey and the cover of David’s 2024 album.
Romany Gilmour – the youngest, a rising singer and harpist who now records and performs alongside her dad.

David Gilmour, Yes, I Have Ghosts. A beautiful song, Lyrics below

[Verse 1]
The heat of the sun stayed on through the night
Made spectres of strangers, playing games with my sight
I passed through the station, a face in the crowd
The whistle was blowing, the barrier came down
There was my baby in another's embrace
I called out her name in shame and disgrace

[Chorus]
Yes, I have ghosts, not all of them dead
Making dust of my dreams, spinning 'round and around
Around in my head

[Verse 2]
Train on the tracks, teeth of the zip
The slider moves down, we were joined at the hip
Stealing the groove, the widening gap
Unfastening rails from a past with no map

[Chorus]
Yes, I have ghosts, a fleeting sight
It's always the living that are haunting my nights

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 3]
Where is the sweet soul that you used to be
Gone like a thistle that's blown on the breeze
I guess when it's over, this haunting will end
The waiting, the baiting, my killer, my friend

[Chorus]
Yes, I have ghosts, not all of them dead
And they dance by the moon
Millstones white as the sheet on my bed

He actually has a guitar technique named after him. It's known as the 'Gilmour bend'.

Hmm... I'll let this guy explain it. That'll save me some time and effort.

(I'm only here sporadically today.)

Thanks. I've been watching David Gilmour for a couple of years now. IMHO, there's no other guitar picker like him.

I love this enough to want to pick up a guitar again. However, my fingers are probably too old to get a thick enough callus for it.

"When I was a child I practiced bending... / My fingers swelled just like two balloons..." (Comment on YouTube ;-)

It's never too late to play. I've shared some of my work in the past. I'm a classical guitarist by training, though I've been paid to perform pretty much anything but classical guitar. There was a period in my life when I needed the money. It didn't pay well, but it fit into my schedule, or could be forced to fit into my schedule. I'd eventually no longer need the money, but I kept performing.

I'm now more or less retired. It has been a little bit, as some aspects of my life are kept private, but I have a band that is willing to let me come sit a few sets whenever I want.

Daughter or granddaughter? He seems to have a lot of "daughters" not very far apart in age. And I'm sure he's not a polygamist. ;)
