I am a HUGE fan.
I'm also a huge fan of his father, Woody Guthrie. Unfortunately, I never got to see his father in concert. I was like 10 years old when he died. I have seen Arlo in concert. I have seen Arlo in concert more than once.
It's a tradition to listen to listen to Alice's Restaurant on American Thanksgiving. It's worth the time investment, in my opinion.
But, that's not his best song (from my view). Nope, that prize goes to The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A:
If you can watch that video without cracking up, I'm not sure what to think of you!
That said, his father was an amazing man. He wrote "This Land Is Your Land", which is nothing like the sanitized version my American friends learned in school. In fact, it was pretty scathing with regards to the American government and society. On top of that, he released the song to the Public Domain, meaning he relinquished his rights to it. Some folks use it as an example to say that Woody was against copyright. However, he didn't do the same for all of his songs.
But, back on the subject of Arlo...
If you're familiar with the Alice's Restaurant song, there's also a movie by the same name. It even has Pete Seeger in it.
I'm a pretty solid fan of American folk music. Well, selectively... I don't like all of it, of course.
This is the movie:

You can probably find it online.

NOTE: There's some partial nudity and sexual situations in the movie. If this offends you, do not watch this movie.
Because to that, I've made sure that it's not a direct link to the movie.
