do you think if I factory reset my windows install this would be fixed. Or re install manjaro
Try re-creating that file. Then run the following.
Code:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager
If the wifi interface isn't back then try restarting.

Is wifi adapter available in Windows?

Another thing to check is to see whether you enabled fly mode.
You can't see the adapter at all, in any way. Ive checked at the control panel. the device manager. It doesnt show up. Im scared I erased it somehow

If it's not available in Windows as well then it could be hardware failure.

But I'd double check for small switch button on your laptop, it could be on the side, in front or anywhere else, it's usually very small and when off, it makes adapter not visible in OS.

btw. it could also be keyboard combo that disabled it!

I think there's some type of mix-up cause here you mention this.
I accidentelly entered the command
sudo sed -i 's/3/2' /etc/NetworkManager/default-wifi-powersave-on.confnow my system doesnt detect my wireless network adapter at all like I don't even see a wifi button
And here you mention this.
sudo sed -i 's/3/2' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/deault-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Maybe you placed the file in the wrong location, so the first place instead of in conf.d?

@Vintage62A
Please provide exact make and model of your laptop, I suspect you pressed function combo on your keyboard that disables wifi.

You can find (usually blue) Fn button on keyboard, it is pressed in combination with other function keys to do various stuff, one of which is wi-fi enablement.
HP Laptop 15-fc0xxx

According to this article Fn + F12 or Fn + F5 should toggle wi-fi or airplane mode, but if not working try other F1-12 keys.
Thanks for the help but I really think just reset my windows install might work. I dont know, but I'm trying to install some drivers from the windows side see if that works.

Looks like wifi 6. Here's 2 links for the spec's:

I want to encourage you @Vintage62A to re-create that file like our moderator suggested.
Then reboot.

If it's not there it could be hardware.

In my case (last year) I re-created the file and used the systemclt cmd's to start the daemon and the network mgr and the new file didn't exit when I knew I created it.
I found out the RAM was bad:- Hope that's not your case.

Did resetting Windows make the difference for the wifi?

Thanks for the follow up and suggestion I'll keep it in mind. I've decided to try and get a LAN to usb adapter and have windows try and use its recovery system, but it uses internet hence the adapter. Hopefully the usb adapter will work and I wont need the wifi drivers for it. We'll see

Did the wifi adapter show up in Windows, guessing not?

In a laptop, the wireless adapter is often a self-contained unit and uses a standardized connection. If you're reasonably adept at taking your device apart, you can probably replace it yourself. They're not expensive and they're widely available. I'd do some reasearch ahead of time to ensure that the device is also going to work in Linux.

Nope, its okay though if all else fails I'll send it to a place to fix it.

alternately it'd be cheaper to get a wifi dongle - see the links in my signature
