Hey everyone!

Recording this week's Linux.org update on Friday and wanted to give you a heads up on what we're covering:

Your Weekly Stats:
  • Top 10 threads by views & replies
  • Most active posters this week
  • New member count
  • Latest forum activity

Feature Topic: GNU Screen - The Old School Way
Yeah yeah, I know tmux is the "cool" thing everyone uses now... but some of us remember when Screen was THE multiplexer.

Still pre-installed on most systems when tmux isn't. Going to show you why it's still relevant in 2025 and why you might want to keep it in your toolkit - especially if you're like me and your muscle memory was formed in the '90s.

NEW T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY!
We've got new Linux.org shirts in stock and I'm giving one away!

To enter: Subscribe to our YouTube channel and reply to this thread with "I want a shirt" by Friday noon EST. I'll pick the winner during the recording. Winner pays for shipping though.

What else should I cover?
Drop suggestions below if there's something you want included.

Video will be up sometime Friday or over the weekend.

Subscribe to the YouTube channel if you haven't already: https://www.youtube.com/@LinuxDotOrg

See you Friday!

Or - buy your own damn shirt! :) https://adminapparel.com/

I want a shirt!

I am subscribed to the channel, being darned near the first to do so.

But it'd be unethical for me to win this shirt. While I might want a shirt, I'll just have to buy one, which is something I'm okay with doing. I don't generally advertise anything on my clothing, but I could make an exception.

Thanks for the offer, and I hope someone is happy with their shirt.

Whereas I have no such reservations. I am a tart for a linux t-shirt.

I would just have to establish how American sizes compare to Australian sizes.

Nor should you. I'm 100% confident that Rob will use something approaching 'random', the optics would be weird (not bad), if I won. By all means, I hope that you're the winner. I might do what I often do, which is order stuff to be delivered at a completely unknown address.

A shirt that I can wear is a good idea. I'm not someone who will make use of a sticker - unless it's important.

(I have some creative ideas regarding a sticker. I'll mention 'em in the mod section eventually.)

Also, I should definitely be asleep by now. I'm okay with not being asleep.

I watched it and thought it was really good. The screen tutorial was informative.

nice!

Here's the winner, lol. On my 2nd Sunday morning coffee.

I don't win a lot of things, so it was a pleasant surprise.

I've ordered the shirt and paid the postage, and we'll see if it arrives by Christmas.

When I have it I'll post a selfie here, and I plan to wear it in any of my Wizards Corner Tutorials that feature a Mini Me in the screencast.

Cheers

Chris

Congratulations! That didn't look very random, but I can't think of a better winner.

Ah, I had already subscribed, but I didn't see this thread. I will tap on the bell thingie, I guess!

Order #KNLDJKVA

Your order has shipped!

The package is in the mail and on the way.

Hopefully, Santa brings it when he hits the Australian leg of his trip, and changes reindeer to kangaroo.
