I've been using linux for nearly 20 years now, both personally & professionally. I've always used a RedHat version and always installed software using rpm or tarballs. I see now that pretty much every distro as their "app stores." I've used them to install things without issues, until a few months ago.

A friend who I'd finally convinced to switch to linux decided to stick with Zorin and said I should check it out. Being the adventurous type I did. It seemed like any other system with some polished graphics. They pushed their app store for installing software so I did and it all seemed fine. That is until I installed the software for my crypto wallet. It installed, I started it up and linked my wallet to it and the next thing I knew my wallet was empty. I traced it to some other wallet in India.

Furious I got on Zorin's app store on their website and they had removed the wallet software. I guess it was left over from when the original ISO was created and never updated.

And it is to be noted that the OP has not been seen again from that day to this.

An app store or software center is just a front-end for the package manager, installs software from the same sources as when you would do it from the command-line. Maybe you had malware on your system that added a compromised source where that wallet software was installed from?

Amen .

And, to be noted, @hinermat still has not reappeared.

Which would lend even more scepticism to be levelled at his 'experience'

if you have something to say, @hinermat, speak up. don't be shy

Classic hit and run. Seems to be more and more prevalent these days. Bashing for the sake of bashing leads to no avail. Give it up.

Never ever had a problem with installing any software using a distros' "app-store" on any bare metal install.

Or any Puppy for that matter.

We are, seemingly universally so, in agreement with this post. It is an old post and the poster has not returned to offer us any clarification or evidence. As such, this thread can go no further. No additional comments will make this thread productive or beneficial to our users.

As such, I've chosen to lock this thread. If the OP comes along and decides they want to engage further, they can let staff know and we'll do what we can to accommodate them. I do not see that as a likely outcome. I dare say my initial response was on the nose and the remaining comments followed suit.

So, let's move to something more beneficial.
