Australia - The Land Down Under

I'm pretty sure that Vegemite access is not, in fact, a human right.
You would be correct.
However, it's an Aussie thing. Vegemite holds a place in Australian lore, equalled only by their right to consume beer, and also to talk bs

This really is a case of bs. You would most likely find this guy is a prankster, with a quirky sense of humour, a larrikin ....but possessing enough intelligence to see what he has started relies on his ability to use the right words/phrases to make it illegal for the authorities to tell him to pull his head in.

It will eventually fail. But he will have gained the interest of the press/journalists in the meantime.

The Australian character is decidedly 'different'

The definition includes 'good-hearted'. This dude is a murderer. I'm not sure how good-hearted they are.

BUT...

In the US, murderers who are released from prison have the lowest rate of recidivism when compared to other criminals.

Of all the people released from prison, they're the least likely to reoffend and end up back in prison. I suppose that's possibly because they already killed the person they felt needed killin'. But, well, it's an interesting statistic.

So, if a criminal gets out of prison and moves next door, you're probably safer if they're a murderer. It's the people convicted of property crimes that you have to look out for. They're far more likely to reoffend, which means they'll break into your house to steal your stuff. (Which sucks because you probably like your stuff.)

Too right ! With a few beers, he becomes your mate ! and then he will look after you !

Nobody in their right mind would touch you then !!

(anybody wanting a bit of Australian 'attitude'...I have it in spades.)

The aussie thing is...the vast majority would have no true idea if I was joking, or not.

Welcome to Australia.

I would love to see some Australian summer pictures in this topic while it's winter on this side of the globe.

Visiting Australia?....A car is mandatory...with a gps on a mobile phone (waze etc or google) Getting to these places by public transport is doable, but not feasible.

Australia is a huge country.

Australia is a huge country.

Curiously enough, that article has 4. Atherton Tablelands in Queensland looking exactly like 5. The Blue Mountains in NSW.

I didn't know that, lol.

Someone fouled up in the pics department..... They have effectively sent the three sisters of Blue Mountains NSW fame, to Atherton tablelands in QLD !....oops !

The Three Sisters:

Three Sisters

Rock formation in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia
The Three Sisters are an unusual rock formation in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, on the north escarpment of the Jamison Valley. They are located close to the town of Katoomba and are one of the Blue Mountains' best known sites, towering above the Jamison Valley. Their names are Meehni, Wimlah, and Gunnedoo. The formation receives more than 600,000 visitors per year

Please read this for what it is meant to be. A summary of history surrounding the late 30's, 1940's, 1950's, and part of the 1960's in Australia.

It is a long read and delves into the association between British people/historians/philosophers etc and Robert Menzies who was Australia's longest serving PM.

It does not delve into one party vs another, or any of that rubbish.

The author of the article, holds a PhD in history from The University of NSW, Australia

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — A prisoner is challenging an Australian state’s ban on inmates eating Vegemite, claiming in a court suit that withholding the polarizing yeast-based spread that most of the nation reveres as an unfairly maligned culinary icon breaches his human right to “enjoy his culture as an Australian.”

Andre McKechnie, 54, serving a life sentence for murder, took his battle for the salty, sticky, brown byproduct of brewing beer to the Supreme Court of Victoria, according to documents released to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

While more than 80% of Australian households are estimated to have a jar of Vegemite in their pantries, inmates in all 12 prisons in Victoria are going without.

This is about our kids, and Grandkids, regardless of which country you are from.

'Banning' kids from social media is about to take place in Australia

Every country in the World, will be watching this. It will attain razor sharp focus.

Keep your comments non political....This has screw all to do with politics.

This has to do with control, safety, influence, privacy, location (geographically), technical challenges, online safety reforms already in place, what might constitute 'reasonable steps' on the part of social media firms, ......

Some exasperated parents just want to be able to say it is illegal. They don't want their kids to feel entitled – or pressured – to access social media.

Omegle, which previous generations turned to when told they were too young for mainstream social media? was shut down two years ago over its failure to protect minors from predators. Copycats have quickly replaced it.
"You're not stopping behaviour, you're just moving that behaviour to other platforms," says Tim Levy, head of online safety company Qoria and one of the trial advisers who quit. "Telling the concerned Australian parents that it's all good now is a very dangerous message."

Many have suggested the focus should be on forcing socials to better police harmful content and limit the power of algorithms, while also preparing children for the reality of life on the web.

Which Social media? Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Reddit, Kick, and Twitch. These platforms will not allow anyone under 16 to create or maintain an account.
