Is this possible?

I don't use them because they're not available in any other format; usually, they are. I primarily use them because they greatly simplify the building of packages for the Puppy-portable ecosystem. There IS "method in the madness"!

Yes. But that doesn't change anything for me. (I'm not a Puppy user.)

Well I'm back in Pop!OS again after some more distro hopping and had to come back and see how I got it all installed from this post.

I tried out PikaOS and after spending some time trying to get a firewall working in that one gave up on that and tried out Nobara OS and had a lot of package failures during the install... after so many tries I bailed on that one too. I considered a few others but knew how good Pop ran so I just started back on it.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

@Condobloke :-

If you're interested, Brian, the repo is here:-

Many of these appear to be game- or game-engine related, though there IS a lot of more 'normal' apps among them, too.

It's worth checking back here regularly, since this list grows daily. I can thoroughly recommend the following:-

MPV - This works brilliantly well
Gnome System Monitor - system utility
system-monitoring-center - ditto (nice, this one!)
Audacious
DeaDBeeF
OBS Studio
WebCamoid - webcam software
QElectroTech - circuit-board schematics and simulated testing (think LTSpice)
OpenTyrian2000 - nice little space-shooter game
LibreCAD
LocalSend - LAN file-sharing for your local network
Shotwell - photo-management; most people know this one!
Transmission-QT - a modern QT port of the long-established torrent client

A few I tried when we first found it seem to no longer be available, but these do definitely work ANYWHERE. The list is constantly changing, so it's worth revisiting from time to time.

Mike. ;)
This is fantastic!

That file you should be able to install via pop's package manager or in the terminal with this command
sudo dpkg --install mintdrivers_1.8.8_all.deb
A better way is to run
sudo apt install ./mintdrivers_1.8.8_all.deb
This will grab any needed dependencies whereas dpkg does not

@MikeWalsh, I have taken a slower look through the list of appimages in :

...and note that there is not a single browser included.

Any idea why ? it was a surprise to me

Umm.....no idea, Brian. Although we HAVE found in Puppyland that it can generate update issues, given that AppImages are - by their very nature - 'read-only'.

'Zilla-based browsers, for instance, like to update 'in-situ' via their internal updater. You can't do this with an AppImage, instead needing to download the new version manually every time. It can also give problems with media playback.

That's the only real reason I can think of.....although it could simply be a personal choice of the maintainers. There really is no way of knowing.

I dont mind admitting...I am lost

I've known that for years, the word "magnet" features in what I am thinking.

1. Is your usual Waterfox still working and unaffected?

2. If not, Timeshift restore.

Lol

I've used plenty of items from AppImageHub over the years. I've never seen this before.

I've tried a few different items from there this morning. Without exception, nothing from this site will now launch; they all come up with this text file, and the terminal goes straight back to a prompt again.

Whether the AppImage creation script has been compromised with malware, or some disgruntled individual in the open-source community has decided to sabotage things, I wouldn't care to speculate.

I shan't be bothering with this site again.....and have now removed its bookmark.

(shrug...)

Yep I got the same thing when I tried Librewolf AppImage - I have deleted that link to AppImageHub out of my bookmarks

Hmm... The odds are quite low, but I hope those weren't actually malicious and didn't make any changes to your system.

so far so good.

Any suggestions what I might look for are more than welcome

Geez dude! You asked a totally legitimate question. Why the defensive posture?
Going a little off-topic here but... Nearly half of the linux population worldwide is very toxic and repeat their favorite mantra "RTFM". No wonder the defensive posture. If I had a dollar for all the times I was told "RTFM", "RTFAW" in the past 11 years, by now I would have been able to buy out Facebook along with its creator. :D But thanks to their toxicity I learned not to rely anyone but google searches and "trial and error" which were much more valuable than any cooked explanations.
