hello.. firstly i must apologize that i am born in the poopy french part of Canada so please forgive if my English isnt UK perfect.

i downloaded pop!os only 2-3 days ago so no idea what version.. most of the linux commands i get from google AI

my request is simple.. i just want to run Fallout 4 goty (game of the year edition) and master of orion 2016 as flawlessly as it ran on windows...
i tried Wine... lutris... portproton.. and nearly all the versions of proton experimtenal in steam
google says i need to run GE proton + lurist to have a good experience...
master of orion 2016 does start but i cannt press anything on the first menu
fallout 4 does run but the frames are extreme.. 1 moment im looking at the ground and a 1 mm move of he mouse and im looking at the sky or somtehing else.. making combat very dificult

i installed QT proton and chose GE proton from the menu.. how do i run ge proton AND lutris together.. i promised myself that i wouldnt give up and crawl back to windows.. please help.. svp aidez moi

Is it a Steam game you are trying to run or a non-Steam game? With Steam Games you can just right click on the game, then going to "Compatibility", put a check next to it and then select ProtonGE. AFAIK the the recent Lutris version that came out already defaults the GE-Proton when installing a game in prefix.

Fallout 4 already runs fine with the current Proton version according to ProtonDB but you can use ProtonGE.

Master of Orion has a native version but it's probably better to switch to the Proton version. Also good to know is that if a game has a native version it if you launch it will by default launch that unless you specify that you want to run with a specific Proton version.
Just right click on the installed game, then click on "Compatibility" and then select "Proton Experimental" or "ProtonGE" whichever you like and launch the game.

So in short, right click on the game in Steam -> Compatibility -> Select the wanted Proton version from the drop-down menu.

Have you considered running windows in a Virtual Machine. Vbox is a good one.

That's not of any use for gaming without dual-gpu and those games work according to most people on ProtonDB.

After installing a Proton version with ProtonUp you need to restart Steam before you are able to select that Proton version in Steam, I just tested that on Debian.
i rebooted the entire system... i now see GE proton 10-33 at the bottom.. but alas no lutris..... and i dont understand why you think im using debian.. im certain i pointed out that i use POP!OS... which i think is from thte ubuntu family of linux.. illl try master of orion first
game does run.. however no change.. still cannot select anything in the first menu.. is it because it starts in a half screen window and not full screen ??

The most recent version of Lutris already is using ProtonGE by default for a newly setup prefix. Yeah my mistake, I read "debian-installer" from the path in your screenshot but not much of a difference in. See my earlier screenshot, that's with the most recent version of Lutris that came out. I would expect it to be in Ubuntu repos by now as well if not you can install ProtonGE for Lutris as well with ProtonUp.
However with ProtonUp you have to select the app you are installing that alternative Proton version for. In your ProtonUp where you see Steam click on the drop-down menu and you will be able to select Lutris there, if you have it selected then when you install an alternative version of Proton it will be available for Lutris or another launcher e.g Heroic Games Launcher. However I would recommend for using Steam with Steam games.

okay. well i tried fallout 4 with ge proton.. its alot smoother although i dont like the half screen window if you could tell me how to maximize that it would be splendid, each time i click the arrows i upscales for 1 second and drops back to that.. my saves are gone but that isnt the end of the world.... maybe if i could play master of orion full screen i could click on single player.. same happened earlier.. i couldn press "yes" on the EULA until i did someting in winecfg to play full screen... maybe just maybe thats the cause for the entire thing.. oh and i still dont see lutris anywhere :) it is installed

Most games have a setting under "Display" whether you want to play full-screen, windowed-bordess, windowed, etc. That's not anything specific to Proton, cloud saves are just the same it fetches your cloud saves from Steam and and you don't need to do anything with winecfg as all the need stuff is done in the Steam prefixes for each game.

actually it is set to 1920 by 1080 but GEproton, wine and portproton all shrink the window down to half my laptop screen size.. all the games i play.. half :(

If that was Proton or Wine issue than it would do it for everyone.

You didn't share you hardware specs but could be you are using an Optimus laptop and it's, not using the correct gpu or something like that.

Btw I just remember something important about PopOS, it just recently transitioned to a new Desktop Environment(DE) Cosmic and I've read a lot of people running into issues and having complaints about it and that it's actually still "beta" software as in user experience.
Fallout 4 is listed there too.

My suggestion would be for you to for example instead of using PopOS to use PikaOS or Nobara with KDE Plasma, as this issue could be related to issues with Cosmic. It's just a bad time to be using PopOS at this time because of this.
The thing you could first try and check though is to see is Cosmic has setup fractional scaling and if it does have that enabled disable it and if you are using multi-monitors make sure it's on the correct monitor if both your monitors have different resolutions.

Pop!_OS is not the greatest general-use distro out there. They write the software mainly to work with their hardware (System76). This means it often has issues on other hardware, and those issues are often difficult (or impossible) to fix.

As such, I don't suggest using that distro unless you have their hardware. I'm told it runs just fine on their hardware, and they have many great reviews because of this. As you're probably not using their hardware, you'd do better with a different distro.

^THIS, basically, except with more details about Pop!_OS.

This sounds more like a desktop/scaling/compositor issue on Pop!_OS COSMIC.
Try to check these basics:
  • make sure Steam is fully restarted after installing GE-Proton
  • set desktop scaling to 100%
  • turn fractional scaling off
  • test with just one monitor if you has more than one
  • in Steam, force Proton Experimental or GE-Proton
  • do not touch winecfg for Steam games unless there is a very specific reason

if non of that work try to run
    Code:
    vulkaninfo --summary
    glxinfo -B

and give the output that may tell something
I'm a little to tired after a long day of work to thing of anything ells then that PT.

UI scale set all the way to the right.. i cannot find fractional scaling in the accessability tab
in compatability.. ge proton is set to default.. i dont have a 2nd monitor.. not yet.....
testing master or orion now

no change, game starts in a window half the screen of my desktop.. since one person disaproves of screenshots i will refrain from posting those

my apologies, i had assumed that your internet was unlimted like the rest of the world.. even as i am not in Canada at the moment im deployed in the Philippines... i still demand unlimited data...

thank you for offering pikaOS.. but i already broke my head this far to get to this point.. perhaps im stubborn :)
a famous youtube Canadian (linus tech tips) told everyone that pop OS is ideal for gaming...if i need simplified theres always ubuntu
