Splintered Thread from___Drive Failure Imminent_"Last Option"

WHat I just wrote is WRONG

Highlight (clickon just once) the partitions that need to be gone

Then click on the RED minus figure to delete that partition.

Delete what you can to make just one big partition

I ended up with the below..

....I cannot delete the free space....so I will now click on the gear, and select FORMAT.
Dont alter the settings down the bottom....just give it a name up te top and click on format....then click next

It will give a warning....click on Format up the top

The free space on mine is just a mistake I made some time ago and have not tidied uo yet

The picture of the gnome was the best way I could think to ask if GNOME sounds like GNOME.

GNU has a hard 'G', but it's silent in gnome.

I forgot to state the obvious last night.

Use your usb with whatever LM is on it....doesnt matter if it 21.2 or 21.3.....as long as it will boot, it will give you access to the drive that needs attention.

So, to save you the clicks......from the FAQ page...:
GNOME stands for "GNU Network Object Model Environment". GNU stands for "GNU's Not Unix", and has always been officially pronounced "guh-NEW" to minimize confusion. Since GNU is GNOME's first name, GNOME is officially pronounced "guh-NOME".

However, many people pronounce GNOME as just "NOME" (like those short people from legend), nobody will hurt you if you find this pronunciation easier.

No, it's still a hard 'G' for the desktop.

I went way too long before I learned this. It was maybe a handful of years ago.

That said, it should also be all in caps - or "GNOME".

It's probably not that important at the end of the day. I often just use the abbreviations, saying P N G instead of ping for example.

All of these issues with hardrives just reminded me of something.
This is a total aside, just a curiosity.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

I assume we all remember XP released to the general public 2001. On the whole everyone was happy with XP. I was too.

January 2007, Windows Vista was released. It just so happened that I had to buy a new laptop on the same day it was available in stores. This sums up how crappy VISTA was.

I HATED VISTA! Everyone hated Vista! I had only begun even using a computer a couple of years before that. Now that I think about it, VISTA kicked off my journey with the Giant that finally led me here. Someone tried to help me install XP over Vista. I now know that what he was trying was illegal. It didn't work. So I bought an OEM WinXP installation disk. I learned A LOT. The hard drive always had issues. Vista was still on the hard drive. At the time, I didn't know how to get rid of it. Every time I booted up I had to do a lot of unusual things in BIOS to get to XP.

So now we have another OS causing problems with a hard drive....

Welcome to Linux.

We can fix that (vista etc)

Easy as pie.

We can !

I can actually drink a cuppa and laugh as I do it !

It's that easy.

So, in fact, can you ....when you boot to 21.2 or whatever, and wipe the crap off that drive using gnome (oops i didnt use capitals !!)....that is effectively what you will have done.

I recently watched a documentary on the history of Linux. That's why I know the 'G' is hard. But I didn't know about Gnome. Now I do!

My favorite part of the documentary....

I'm about to do this...

After ALL the issues, I have to say I'm really nervous! If this doesn't work, it something ELSE get messed up, I might end up with no computer at all!
I'm not saying I don't believe anything I've been told here. It just seems like I keep running into one obstacle or another.

One foot in front of the other.....gets you there, everytime.
