"Can't fix stupid"...

"Air conditioned by nature" according to the sign approaching Perry Corner, from the south, on route 1.:)

The house is 'passive solar', meaning it's kept cooler by passive means. (An example would be the roof's overhang. It's enough to block much of the sun during the summer, while the lower arc in the winter hits the windows just fine.)

I do regret not getting central air. It's possible to fit it today, but it'd be a hassle, take longer, and be more expensive.

By August, I'll be regretting not doing it.

Also, I do not recall that sign. That's surely my memory, or I just didn't see it. That's the kind of sign I'd notice. Heck, I'd notice it enough to stop and take a picture of it to send to my friends that live in warmer areas.

I remember back when I was traveling as a tech rep for NATO, I got a call from a client in a panic state. He said that his secretary was deleting files, and used the DOS command "delete*.* " . The problem was the secretary as in the root directory of drive "C". I slapped my forehead, and told him to shut it down, and I would be there in a week. Using my "Witchdoctor disk" (Norton Utilities) I restored DOS and all the files, and showed the secretary what had been done wrong. The panic was because none of the files had EVER been backed up. That problem was also corrected. Ah yes, the memories;).
What a mess!o_O

It's a billboard type sign on the right side about the time you see the "A frame" ice cream shop ( the Polar treat) on the left. I don't think it has been re-painted in the last century, so it may be difficult to read, or it may have fallen apart. I haven't been home in many moons.

I just looked at that section of road on google maps, and the sign is not there. Bugger!

It is interesting that you call it home. I've lived in many places, but this is where I call home.

Home is where the heart is

I've lost saved stuff many times having multiple flash drives plugged in at the same time not paying attention what I was doing.

Fortunately I save stuff to more than one drive.
Real important stuff I save to a CD / DVD depending on what it is.

Always have at least a couple of backups to fall back on when you do what we humans excel at which is mistakes leastwise I do.

I call them brain farts and at my age it's the one thing I can count on having. :p

It really is simple....these calamities are caused by "inattention" ...taking ones eyes off the task at hand/splitting the available concentration span between a few activities/tasks, etc

Same reason a good majority of car accidents happen.
Yeah, but me bricking a slackware installation, while really annoying, does not have potential to kill, like texting while driving a 5 ton "unguided missile" does, fortunately for me (and many others).

For some people, it is fortunate that breathing is "automatic".:D

A little bit of a funny story, When I was a young kid (About 6-8) pretending to drive a golf cart, I Pressed down on the brake pedal (Which was also the parking brake) a little too hard on a hill and rolled down backwards.. Right into my mother's truck...Which just got fixed at the time with a new rear bumper after a minor bump. My father fixed the truck the first time not too long before that and put a new one on, then Mr "Gotta Go at Warp 9" hit the bumper.. again. Oi, Still funny tho.

That moment when you're processing what just happened. Turns out all of life is a flow chart.

That sort of reminds me of a story my father told me. So, this story isn't mine, but it is kind of amusing.

So, my dad was out with some of his friends. They were maybe 8 or 9 at the time. For whatever reason, they decided to throw rocks through some windows.

They were, of course, caught.

So, my grandfather went out and bought a bunch of new panes of glass. This was back in the day when they still conserved and reused things (think the Great Depression era), so the panes of glass were wrapped in newspaper and sitting in a chair.

My dad got home and hopped into the chair, breaking all of the glass.

My grandfather didn't raise his voice, or so I'm told. He very quietly told my dad to, 'get out of my sight'. Which is probably a good thing. Back then, it wouldn't have been uncommon (or even frowned upon all that much) if my grandfather had given him a solid beating.
