Zorin OS / OneDrive integration. Questions!

Hi,

I am wondering if I access my OneDrive account via Zorin, can I copy the files to a physical hard drive to get them out of onedrive? Or do I have to try to complete this via WIndows before I remove that from my workstation?

I see no reason why that shouldn't be possible. All you're doing there is simple file-manipulation, and such ought to work on ANY platform.

You've been trying to find an easy-to-use, GUI-based desktop client for OneDrive that works in Linux AND 'syncs', haven't you? I've never had to use OneDrive myself, but I came across this article a bit earlier:-

Quite possibly you've already discovered these during your searching, in which case I apologise for 'duplication'. At a quick glance, the set-up looks like it ought do what you want.

Just a thought, FWIW. The other thought I had.....Zorin uses Nautilus, doesn't it? (I know it used to, at any rate). AFAIK, you ought to be able to set-up a synced drive that then shows in the left-side panel..?

You've probably tried this already... Others will be able to address this more fully; I haven't used Nautilus for many years.

Me, all I do is to set my various cloud a/cs to run as web-apps from their browser clients, using Chrome. They can be set to show up as separate windows on the desktop, and I can then launch them from individual Menu entries. This works well for me, but.....it wouldn't suit everybody.

I am trying to get rid of OneDrive and everything MS. The problem is I need all my Data off onedrive and onto a physical HDD before I get rid of our M365 account.

Mm-hm. No probs; that's fair comment.

Then to answer your original query again, yes, it should be perfectly possible. So long as you can upload to / download items from your OneDrive - which is, after all, the whole point of these cloud storage a/c! - what you ask should be very straight-forward.

As I stated above, it's basic file-manipulation.....and that's one of the things most of us learn how to do fairly early on in our computing 'careers'.

Downloading it all, to purely 'local' storage, is the only guaranteed way that I know of to retain full control of your data.

I agree. I do have to download my Private Vault stuff from my desktop. I don't have access to those photos via Zorin.

It's so GD hard to download your data from OneDrive to a local drive on windows. I am hoping it's going to be way easier on Linux. MS don't want you to remove your data from there because they have you behind a paywall forever.

You can manage your Onedrive account and get your stuff-off from the Web-App that MS provides.
Sign in to MS365 on Zorin from here- https://onedrive.live.com/login then you can get it from there.
I do something similar for me mother's old cloud storage from when she was still alive.

To access OneDrive from Zorin OS 18, open the “Settings” app, go to Online Accounts, select “Microsoft 365,” sign in with your Microsoft account, and toggle the “Files” switch to ON. This allows you to browse and manage your OneDrive files directly in the Nautilus file manager without needing extra software.
