Sup guys :)

They are, but hold the same quantity 375 ml, 13 oz. I prefer the taste out of glass.

We don't get many beers in 'stubby' form. There's Red Stripe (a Jamaican beer), but it's not to my taste. It does come in a 'stubby' bottle.

We also have 'pony' bottles (in one case). They're not really 'stubbies', I don't think. They might be? I'm not sure about the qualifications. I'll let you decide if they're 'stubbies'.

I feel like one could cut that can open (after it's empty), flatten it out and make something decorative out of it.

my father worked for the Forest Service and one of his responsibilities was managing campground hosts at the local campgrounds. One of the hosts (it was always the same people every year) had a hobby of turning beer cans (Pabst mostly) into pinwheels that you could hang from your RV and would sell them to folks in the campground for beer money. from what I recall he was basically breaking even on them & drinking for free.

Same, no booze, no nicotine, no sugar, no exercise :p Only drugs for 30 years > "Slackware and Arch". Guess I’m never shaking that addiction :D
i used to train powerlifting when i were young, now i have started again and go to gym 2-3 times a week. i hurt my shoulder (25 years a go) and its bugging me, i have to go see a doc, maybe they could help me with it.

My only bad habit is smoking. I've been smoking less than before, but it's hard to quit altogether.

my Linux/Unix addiction is about 22 years.

Used to play soccer, but leg injury put a stop to that :(Job mostly sitting (programming microprocessor-controlled taximeters, Uber gear, etc.). Maybe should hit the gym, do something for health. But I'm so damn lazy ... :D

I was a powerlifter for 25 years - lifter, coach, referee, admin, but that's a story for another time and place, I guess.

thats awesome. i lifted weights for 5 years. my body weight was 75 kg - 136 lbs.

Huh... I met a dude online (like two decades ago). Then, for reasons, I drove around the country for quite a while (more or less six months and largely 'at random'). I just happened to be in that area, so I stopped in to meet him in person. They were not the only people I visited on this journey.

Anyhow, he was a power lifter. He was even on the US Olympic team. I believe he also coached the team, but not during the Olympics. Or, at least, he didn't go to the games with the intent to coach.

He also did some of the Olympics' color commentary on TV. I don't want to go into too many details, but he was a pretty fun guy to visit. We've since lost touch. I'm not sure who is to blame for that.

He had an impressive set of equipment in his garage. I was younger then, and probably stronger than I am now. I can deadlift a lot of weight for someone who isn't into powerlifting.

And that's where it ends...

It was a reality check when I tried the other lifts. It was humbling to try Snatch and Clean and Jerk with proper form. My lifts were a fraction of what I thought I could lift. Like, I could barely get in the triple digits (in pounds). My best Clean and Jerk wasn't much more than 60 kg. (It was 135 pounds.)

On one hand, he was impressed with that. (We limited me to just three tries, so that I wouldn't do something stupid and hurt myself.)

On the other hand, I thought I was pretty fit. I figured I could bench about twice that for multiple reps and could military press a solid chunk of weight. I figured I'd throw up about twice that, maybe more.

Nope...

I probably smirked a little when he started me off with just two 25 lb plates (plus the bar). After that, my smirking was over.

It gave me a bit of insight and appreciation for the lifts they do in competitions. Today, I can still bench about 1.5x my body weight, but I guarantee that I can't Clean and Jerk even half of my body weight. I sure as heck can't Snatch it. I can't imagine doing it with nearly 500 lbs, which is close to the current record.

i did bench press 2 reps with 110 kg
squatted 160 kg
deadlifted 185 kg

snatch and clean and jerk were about 55-60 kilos.
i am 170cm tall and weigh about 80 kg these days.

i have about 65-75% of my strength left. maybe a bit more. depending on what i do at the gym.

squatted 160 kg

When I left the USMC, I could squat over 200 kg, enough to make the bar bend. My legs were very powerful back in the day. I could do almost twice that as a leg press. (Leg presses are easier than squats.) My legs were even disproportionate to the rest of me. I could also run and jog for miles.

In 2018, I was a passenger in a pretty spectacular automobile wreck. We hit so hard on my side of the car that I broke my femur on the other side of my body. It broke the top of the femur off entirely.

I can jog again, but I was in physical therapy for a long time. Heck, I was largely consigned to a bed for a long time. It turns out that I can sleep on my back instead of on my side. I was pretty limited and could not lie on my side for a long time. I used that physical therapy to get me back into regularly exercising.

So, there's a gym in my basement. It's fairly well-equipped, but I do not have a squat rack, nor do I have a leg press.

To that end, I don't work out for maximum power or anything like that. I just do it to maintain my current self. I worry more about the number of reps than I do the maximum lifts. This is conservative on purpose. At this age, I don't really want to injure myself. It takes me much longer to heal than it used to.

I still have pics of me with the bar bent. They're in a photo album. I should find them and digitize them, or send them out for someone else to do. I'm more likely to do the latter than the former, as I value my time a great deal.

i am not going for maximum power either, as i have type 2 diabetes i train just for fun. and health of course.

i had big legs also :)

I tried out for the US Olympic swim team and got a letter in the mail that said, "Congratulations, you're in the 17th ranking!" More stuff in the letter about what to expect next and that kind of stuff. I was very excited and expected to be on the team and training like crazy. Until I found out that there were hundreds of us in the 17th ranking; and hundreds in the 16th ranking, and so on. Bragging rights cancelled.

If wine drinking, guitar, or billiards were an Olympic sport, I'd try out for the team. Otherwise, I was a solid baseball pitcher.

I used to be pretty good at beer drinking, but now it just makes me feel bloated after a few of them. Also, while I like wine, I don't generally get all that inebriated, if at all. I'd make an exception for the Olympics! Heck, I'd even practice really hard at it.

Surely there must be something for billiards!

I played on a pool team for a while - mainly because, the way the APA structures things, every team needs a few good players and a few who totally suck. I was one of the latter. Had a lot of fun, fulfilled the "suck" requirement. :)

my body weight was 75 kg - 136 lbs.

Just a note, 75 kg is 165 lbs.

136 lbs is about 62 kg.

I squatted 270 kg

Benched 145 kg.

Deadlifted 280 kg.

Best competition total 687.5 kg at two different meets. Last competed end of 1996.

that is good total :D

lots more than me.

yeah , i have played billiards for 40 years :D

Surely there must be something for billiards!

There are tournaments, including world championships. I've done well in local tournaments, and I'm not interested in spending the time to compete on a larger scale. The largest I'd play in would be just regional (maybe a few states) tournaments.

I have a lovely old table in my game room. It's an old Brunswick coin-op that's regularly maintained. I have a small tournament almost every Friday night, but I'm not allowed to win. I do better betting people after the tournament is over, so it's all good.

My preference is straight pool, but I've played a lot of the other billiard games. I do like snooker, but it's not popular here.

At this point, I suppose we're dreadfully off-topic. Then again, it's an 'intro' post. Our digression just means they're getting to learn more about us!
