So, you want to 'do a pewdiepie'....have firefox open pc startup ??

I have never seen a video from them but I've heard the username before.
Just watch the video. Maybe (just maybe) it will change your opinion about my negativity and inability to be helpful. ;)

It probably won't. You've got a whole history of posts at this point, regardless of this one.

If you're open to suggestions, life is easier if you read things in their best light. When you see something that seems absurd to you, read it in its best light - that is that the person was well-intentioned and that interacting with them politely may help them see things in another way.

Trust me on this one... It makes life so much easier.

Well. I did strike a nerve or two (or ten or twenty) it would appear.

I have belonged to Linux.org for approx 7 years.

I have not encountered this level of negativity in all that time.

It could be a good idea for a few of you to get out more...take a breath of fresh air and perhaps smell the roses (LOL)

I am not about to waste my time attempting to convince you of the merits of the young man who posted the video on youtube.

Instead I will put up a few facts.

Pewdiepie ....

Age: 36.

Read the Wikipedia link . An interesting young man. Yes....young. (I am more than double his age)

Linux.

Many quantitative studies of free/open-source software focus on topics including market share and reliability, with numerous studies specifically examining Linux. The Linux market is growing, and the Linux operating system market size is expected to see a growth of 19.2% by 2027, reaching $15.64 billion, compared to $3.89 billion in 2019. Analysts project a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13.7% between 2024 and 2032, culminating in a market size of US$34.90 billion by the latter year. Analysts and proponents attribute the relative success of Linux to its security, reliability, low cost, and freedom from vendor lock-in.

The Video:
Presented entirely by pewdiepie (Felix) shows his skill in presenting video. Quite remarkable !

Members here: if you have seen this video and its possible influence on Linux as being negative/unneeded/unhelpful/ etc etc etc....Please...open your mind...take a fresh look. Has he lied...presented anything in the way of a mis truth?

To my mind, he is a nice young bloke, with an absolute boatload of intelligence and ability.

To the 'negative nellies'

Grow up.

This post is yet another example of what can be done if you have the necessary mindset to put it into action.

If your pc/laptop cannot handle the 'strain' of opening an app which you will inevitably click on to open shortly after booting anyway.....then your pc/laptop needs to be sent back to the ark which is where it probably came from and obviously belongs in 2025

The reason I posted this ?.....I got the idea from pewdiepies video and also from the comments posted thereon.
It is a fact....after booting my PC, i inevitably open Thunderbird to access emails.

Why not have it open and ready.?

It works like a dream. Is it a biggie....of national importance & significance?....No.

I am left to wonder, having read every single one of the comments left here....if the negativity and nastiness of some comments are directed at me...or at pewdiepie (Felix) ....or indeed at both of us.

Felix is not here to defend himself. I am.

Grow Up.

@Tritone , I feel a need to remind you of

https://www.linux.org/threads/apologies.56573/

in which you said (my highlighting)

I don't know why, but I got really angry about the whole Cloudflare situation and posted some unacceptable messages. They've been removed, bug I still believe I owe some members an apology. Guys, I'm really sory. Accept my apologies and I promise - it's not gonna happen again.

It has, and more than once. You are making a mockery of that apology, which may be regarded as lip service.

If you do not wish to be perceived as a troll, do not behave like one.

If you continue in this vein, I will give you a couple of weeks' unpaid leave to consider if this forum is where you want to be.

Always heartened to see people running Linux and feeling joyous because they free from Windows. First heard about this on T.O.S. today's youtube channel. Question I am asking everyone if Felix comes here I hope we will welcome him with whatever questions he might have.

G'day my friend from over the ditch.

He would certainly be welcomed by me, although I suspect at the rate he learns, his questions will likely be beyond my ken.

No doubt some of our "brain-boxes" will be able to assist.

Be warned - if he brings with him a fraction of his 110,000,000 followers, I will be making you a Moderator before your feet can hit the floor.

Should I apologize to that youtuber for having an opinion? Did you miss the fact that it was your friend who actually went completely off-topic first (by starting to psychoanalyze me)?

You are making a mockery of that apology,

You're making a mockery of what it means to be a moderator/admin. You always take sides and (openly!) support people you know longer and consider your friends.

I will give you a couple of weeks' unpaid leave to consider if this forum is where you want to be.

If you are planning to give me a couple of weeks, then you can give me a life sentence. I want to be a member of this forum, but double checking every word in case the dictator's friend may feel offended? Nah.

To everyone who wanted to talk on a certain level, understand what a friendly banter is and (most importantly) was able to get what my posts were actually about - a massive thanx! All the best, guys! :)

Mate, I will give him a sample of my wife's (Te) cooking. That will endear him to the place and leave @Rob scrambling to fit in all the new members !

Thanx! Would be nice if you applied this philosophy to me and to what I wrote. ;)

And if you're open to suggestions. Life if easier when you understand that the internet is just the internet, learn not to be offended on behalf of someone else and realize that a friendly banter is actually the most enjoyable form of conversation and, while it may seem rude on the surface, it's actually very respectful and very... well... friendly.

If majority of folks here change their attitude then this site may finally get the number of users matching its domain name, cause at the moment it really doesn't look that great.

You always take sides

You have spent less than 4 weeks here.

If you had 4 years here, you would know that I do not play favourites with my friends, even they I have cautioned from time to time (very seldom, as they are better contributors).

I will give you two weeks off. If you continue your current course, then the next time will be 4 wees, and 3 strikes and you're out.

I do hope you take the time to reconsider, I am a great believer that everybody has something to offer.

I don't understand why someone would want a browser to open on startup. The less programs start on startup, the better.;)

That's fair enough, and your call.

For some of us, particularly those retired, this is "the office" or "the club", so having our browser open at start may be useful.

For writers, they might choose to have LibreOffice Writer open at start, and so on.

The options are only limited by your imagination and your needs or wishes.

It's Linux, it's customisable.

Cheers

Wizard

That's true, I didn't think of it that way. Linux can be customized a lot and I tinkered with it until I got tired of fixing things. Now, the machine is just for games and projects. :D

Are you running Linux Mint>?....which version?21.3, 22.1 etc

Do you have Timeshift set up ?

latest 22.1, no I don't have Timeshift set up. I haven't needed it yet.

Timeshift can save your bacon if and when you really screw things up......possibly save you a reinstall.
The screenshots from it are best saved to an external drive

Off (your own) Topic, Brian.
