Hey there everyone..
We had a long Labor Day weekend so I tried to spend some time away from the computer - apologize for my delay in replying to this post.
We require input of "birth date" to help verify age of our members for registration. The cut off is that you need to be 13yrs or older to register. This adds another hoop for would-be spammers to have to fill out upon registration - not just the data they provide, but the timing it takes to enter it.. ie: if they enter the info on the registration page in under 10 seconds (I forget the actual time) or so, it flags them as a bot and disallows registration.
After that, as with any Internet site, you can modify the display of your information - we think it's pretty easy to find the settings:
Top/right of site, mouse-over your username to get a dropdown - click 'privacy'.
It will bring you here: https://www.linux.org/account/privacy
Then, pick what to show/hide.
We don't do anything with any of the data on the site - that's why we continue to have advertisements, etc.. to help pay for the operation of the site.
We also urge our users to make use of the two-step verification on your account - this insures that only you are signing in under your account. You can also pick that option from the dropdown mentioned earlier - or follow this link: Two-Step Verification
Thanks!
Rob
