Privacy IS NOT The Only Reason and I'm Not Being Stubborn ... Zoom

still have fedora/kde on my testbench laptop so I tried it & was able to get it to the point the @dos2unix did with no issues. @Sherri is a Cat, have you tried fedora? or just mint?

fedora/kde on my testbench

KDE? That's a desktop, right?

Do I need to download 2 things?

I am moving this thread from Off Topic to General Linux Questions.

It contains numerous posts which ask for and receive responses to, Linux Questions, and therefore should be in our Support subforums.

No criticism on the OP for this :)

I will also have some input, to follow soon.

Cheers

Your cheerful, not so grumpy (5,000 years) ole Wizard

Is the Zoom you use the free version with the 40 minute time limit, or the Pro paid version?
The one you're offered to download when you join a zoom meeting for some online training (that usually takes the whole day).

It's free, so I guess the time limit is only on the meeting organiser

I have used zoom sparingly here from time to time. And have had very limited experience with it, but when I've used it of Fedora, Ubuntu and Kubuntu it has worked for me. I use the snap version on ubuntu & Kubuntu and the Flatpack version on Fedora all with KDE except Ubuntu of course, and never had the problems you are having with Mint. But Then I ran mint for a long time and never tried zoom on it. So it must be something in mint perhaps, Last I knew Mint defaults still to x11 and not wayland yet though wayland is available for it.

Good luck in finding a solution. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see how it finally shakes out.

It doesn't work that way! Sorry

I want to say this first to the people who actually understand what the problems have been. Thank you so much for your help and for taking me seriously. You know who you are.

I have to wonder how different this might all be if I hadn't mentioned the one word that nearly everyone seems to focus on. 'Privacy'. It's not worth my time to once again reiterate all the other reasons. It would fall on deaf ears. If privacy was my only concern, it would not justify what's been going on.

With a few exceptions, I don't think anyone realizes why I use Zoom or what the problems have been. The purpose of this thread was not to ask for help. I wrote it hoping that people who seem to think I'm being ridiculous or hard headed might understand my reasons for trying to get it under control. This is not something I'm doing on a whim. This is actually important. I was hoping to put an end to the jabs and underhanded subtle insults.

If you do not regularly host and/or chair very large meetings that are open to the public everyday, then you can't possibly have the same experiences I'm having. I don't expect that of anyone. But it's not okay to insult me or blow me off.

This was the friendliest forum I found when I started using Linux. With the exception of a few people, I don't feel so welcome anymore. I am almost finished accomplishing what I set out to do with Zoom. Yesterday I saw yet one more underhanded comment in another thread. I decided to go else where for help.

I'm not sure moving this thread will do any good or if it's even worth it.

Since I have many of the same Zoom problems that you do, AND I have been following your posts about it, I completely understand where you're coming from!

I haven't seen anyone criticize you here, but I believe you. I need to read more, I see. Please try not to let those ignorant folks get to you. Your input is valuable to me and certainly others!

I'll post what I find out as soon as I am able to. I was looking forward to joining a meeting tonight, but it was cancelled. Kindly bear with us!
