I have a legacy Epson Stylus Printer NX110.. I was viewing Printer Properties and for some reason it froze and I could not close it out. This occurred after trying to print out a "test" page to confirm the printer was working. I tried this 3 times so there are 3 jobs in the print queue. I haven't used the printer in some time but it printed out a "test" page then. So, I thought it was functioning okay. I'm still trying to navigate MX. Thoughts?

I don't know about the Printer Properties in MX, but I would advise using CUPS for printer management. I also don't know if MX has CUPS, but it should, being a Debian subspecies. In theory it should be installed by default, but who knows. Go to localhost:631 in a browser, and try the administration menu. You should be able to use pkill to kill the properties applet, but I have no idea what its name might be.

It does have CUPS. See below.

Was your printer working before this? Sometimes my printer for some reason does not print or work after running fine previously. I simply delete and then add the printer back with the "Print Settings" program in the previous post and see if it fixes that or if it doesn't work maybe simply turning the printer on and off may work. If neither of those work I simply restart the computer and that usually fixes it. This happens even in Windows from time to time.

Cups is the common Unix printing, you will still need the printer drivers, hang 6 i will boot Mx and see what they have,

Check you have print-driver-espr installed [if not its in the software repo]

all printers will throw the occasional wobbly, if your set-up hasn't changed, and it throws one, with the printer on, pull the USB plug and put it in a different socket on your computer this will in most cases make the machine re load the defaults.

Yes, the printer drivers are necessary. CUPS is just a management tool, but it works for me. The manufacturer-provided tools for my Samsung printer are useless, but CUPS gets the job done. Finding the correct driver can be difficult for some printers. I have no experience with Epsons, the last Epson I used was a dot-matrix machine, under DOS and Windows 3.

sorry for the delay in responding had issues to address. Yes, the printer printed a test page Aug. 2025.

I tried to use sudo yum install pciutils to find what was installed but it failed. I've also tried unplugging usb wire and reinstalling..still no joy. I still have print settings - localhost on the taskbar.

If you're using MX [debian] then why are you using Yum commands [redhat] Debian usually use apt [advanced package manager]

Should I click on server in settings and see if cups is an option?

If you're using MX, yum likely won't work for you.

Try this...

sudo apt install pciutils
Okay, this is what I get.

Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.

For some reason I am not getting email notifications for new posts?

I've tried to connecting to localhost. nothing happens. Tried connecting to Cups nothing?

Exactly what do you mean by nothing happens? How are you trying to connect? Precisely what is the result. I'm not a dentist.

To see if cups is installed, in a terminal run
apt policy cups

Sorry for the confusion as I was answering about turning off printer unplugging and plugging.
Here is what you asked for.
apt policy cups
cups:
Installed: 2.4.2-3+deb12u9
Candidate: 2.4.2-3+deb12u9
Version table:
*** 2.4.2-3+deb12u9 500
500 http://deb.debian.org/debian bookworm/main amd64 Packages
500 http://security.debian.org/debian-security bookworm-security/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Printer properties shows my printer with a check mark beside it and connected to localhost.

Well, I was able to print out a "test page" so I thought I would open Thunar file Manager and select Pictures to try and print. I opened a picture using 'nomacs'. I then right clicked but found no option to print?? What am I missing?

Did you download the Printer/Scanner Drivers from Epson ?

I have an Epson Printer/Scanner...I always download the Drivers first then install them before the Printer/Scanner...then restart the computer.

No, I went to printer properties Help?. Followed steps and tried debugging it completed. I don't exactly how I got to CUPS but I chose it and was able to print "test page" after that. I wanted to make sure it was working OK so I opened Pictures and chose one and opened it and right clicked to find options TO PRINT and there are none.
I can't see a print icon anywhere. What am I missing??
