Yesterday, my 10+ y/o computer died. I was trying to update the BIOS (It had not been updated since purchase. Before trying, I read and read and read. And worked step by step and reread the step before applying. It BRICKED. Since I was going to upgrade in the fall, it looks like I am doing it sooner.

My question is: What motherboard and CPU do you all recommend for audio production? I prefer AMD CPUs. I don't like to use Intel unless there is no choice.

I haven't seen a computer that would brick with a failed BIOS update in more than a decade.

Which make and model is this? Do you know the motherboard's model number?

As mentioned above, you can often remove the CMOS battery, cycle the power, and be on your way.

Alternatively, there's a jumper on your motherboard that you lift off, put it on the other set of pins (there will be three pins), and cycle the power.

More often these, just take format a USB with exFAT, copy the BIOS update file to it, and boot the computer. You may need to press one of the F keys, so feel free to press all of them.

Also currently common is an F key boot combination that allows you to revert to the prior OS.

Some of those are well over a decade old. The jumper method has been around since the early 2000s and is still used by some OEM motherboards.

I've never updated the BIOS and never had problems...but my Tower's Motherboard failed 3 years ago.

I needed a new Motherboard...CPU and Ram...it all depends on what you can afford.

I've always used Intel and never had problems.
