Hi Everyone- Switching to Linux- I have a newer Think pad with AMD Nvidia - basically for my CAD work while renovating house. I plan to convert to Linux at a later date.
So, I wanted to get other computers so I don't mess up my expensive most new computer. I picked up 2 laptops..

ThinkPad L412 i5 4g Ram (DDR3) 120GB SSD hard drive . I think, it has extra port for another RAM. Was thinking of 2x 8GB for this one. What is my max ram? 2x 8GB Ram?
ThinkPad X131e 8g Ram 120GB hard drive. (currently 2 4GB I think)
I wanted the G1 T14 but hard to find with AMD.

I like the X131e as it is small and has a "bullet proof" case.- but smaller screen
The L412 is larger.

I plan on converting my first newer ThinkPad as my daily, but not sure which direction I should go to with either the L412 or the x131e to upgrade ram.

Also looking at a home lab down the road. Located in Brisbane Australia.
Need help to find the right RAM cards and maybe SSD hared drives.

Looking at Fedora KDE Plasma, for security privacy- not going down Tails route, but yes to Brave Browser Mullvad VPN
Maybe Pop OS, or Kubuntu (but that's my least favorite)

Another bloody Antipodean, Welcome to the forums, you will find we have many of your compatriots here.

if your asking for a personal opinion on these two laptops mine goes like this

The 313e has a twin core single threaded AMD CPU rock solid and reliable,
The 412 has a twin core 2 threats per core Intel CPU, again being an older Intel its virtually rock solid
Both left the factory with 2GB ddr3 ram, both can be upgraded to a maximum of 8 GB ram so pound for pound [in your case AUD to AUD] what would I choose, the 412 every time. We have many members using the Lenovo and many like myself who prefer Dell, but either way both makes lead the way for reliability and compatibility for Linux.
its nearly 10-30 pm over there have a sleep on it.

G'day
