Happy April Fools' Day

In Rocket Leauge... There is usually around this time A gag mode put in where you pretty much end up with a Robbin 3 wheel car.. How am I supposed to hit a goal then!?!?!? Thing rolls over and you can't get up easy!

I didn't forget....it was yesterday ! (Australia here)

I know it's the 1st. I just don't 'celebrate' the holiday. Hmm... I guess you could say that I 'aged out' of that demographic.

A pinch and a punch for the first of the month !~

Oh, I forgot to mention that the Artimus II launched today, sans pranks. We're sending humans around the moon with this one.

But...

I don't necessarily approve. (Nobody asked for my opinion, after all.) Frankly, there aren't any real benefits to putting more humans on the moon. The soil will destroy everything. It will not sustain human life. We know what's on the moon and what the moon is made of (well enough). Any tech required to keep humans alive on the moon would keep humans alive elsewhere. (I could go on...)

If we're going to meaningfully leave this gravity well we call Earth, we might as well invest in making it sustainable. Plonking a few humans on the moon isn't all that valuable.

I say this as a scientist. I love space exploration and learning for learning's sake. But I just can't get behind putting humans on the moon. We have adequate robots for that.

No, I don't really think adding humans to Mars is better. In both eventualities, they're still dependent on the people back home to keep them alive for any sustained period of time. We've already got an equivalent for that, which we call Antarctica -- where they at least have free oxygen to breathe.

You don't need to land on the moon or on Mars to create a generational spacecraft. (Which is something we can't do at this time.) We're not going to go live on Mars, that's just stupid. If we have the tech to create a sustainable habitat on Mars, we have the tech to make a generational spacecraft. If we can create a generational spacecraft, there's pretty much no reason to enter any gravity wells (like planets), unless we're after the resources. If we have a generational spacecraft, we probably aren't going to need said resources. That'd be why it's generational in the first place.

All that said, it's still pretty exciting to see humans headed out to the moon. It was awesome when we first did so, and it's still a feat today. It's just, well, not really all that important for our future. That doesn't mean it's not fun and awesome. It's just a bit wasteful and borders on meaningless.

Ah, well...

As I said, nobody asked me. That's probably for the best.

anyone who's interested in lunar infrastructure/mining should check out https://www.youtube.com/@Anthrofuturism/videos - guy spells it all out.
