I just bought an Epson ET 4950 printer, the salesman at Hardly Normal assured me that this printer was compatible with the Linux operating system.
When I go to Drivers& Download section of Epson website, I get this message.

Sorry there are no matching downloads for the Epson EcoTank ET-4950

Is there any way to connect the printer to my computer?

no idea what distro you're using so here's the archwiki link for cups: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/CUPS

when you've gotten cups installed and you know the IP address of your printer, browse to localhost:631 and then add it. add the printer via ipp using this format ipp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:631/ipp/print (xxx's the ip address for the printer).

scanning... you're going to need a driver from Epson for that.

you need to understand the Epsom system, not all drivers are available to all countries, as products are taylord to certain countries,

I think this is what you need for Debian based distros, on a AMD64 system

With Epson you need to type ET-4650...if you type Epson ET 4950 it won't work.

Sales people will tell you anything...90% know nothing about what they sell.
I needed ink for my Epson XP-2205 printer...told the sales person at office works...make and model number...was told this was the correct ink.

When I put it in it said incompatible..took it back and was told I got the wrong one...blame the customer.

Unfortunately where I live I have to do a lot of mail order or do a 1000km trip and a couples days.

When I get this screen do I click on the Epson Inkjet Printer Driver 2 (ESC/P-R) for Linux in the driver section?

you download the first 4 [these are the drivers] you should not need the source codes, and install them.

some times epson will offer a one click download all drivers [it did for mine] unfortunatly you will have to do them all individually

Dont know what happened when I clicked on download I get this.

cant see your latest picture.

Walkthrough

click on go to download
you now have the licence page scroll to the bottom, under the licence agreement it tell you what version you have chosen, if correct tick box to agree to terms this will open the download link you will need to repeat for each driver.

I refreshed the page, and still get all these Hieroglyph.

Hi There, I'm going through this same process with my New linux installation and getting the same page of heiroglyphs, even when following the steps outlined above. Was this successfully resolved for the original poster?

I have had a few attempts and never got any further than what I had above, after reading your message I had another go.
I came across this page.

I scrolled down to this.

I put that in my sudo and got this.

In the software manager I wrote Epson and Epson scan 2 etc came up.
Only Epson scan 2 and printer - driver - escpr would install.
The video might be helpful..

I came across this link is this what I need?

I resolved my printer issue by downloading the driver on a windows laptop, transferring to a USB Stick, loading it and installing it onto my Linux Computer, then deleting the printer and re-installing it on the Laptop again. Kind of cheating, but it got the job done....
