Since I am comfortable with Zorin on our computers. Can I set the server we have up using Zorin as it's base OS? It would make it much easier for me since I am familiar with the OS.

Thanks for the suggestion ///////. ha ha. I am probably just going to use Zorin, if I can. hoping to.

I want to have file storage, connection while on the road, and PiHole set up on the system.

Yes, you can. However, Zorin is not server focused, it's mainly a desktop distro, with heavy desktop programs, drivers, and everything else.
For a server, you don't need all that. But I guess that knowledge and experience will come later.

For now on, I'd say you could use Zorin for server tasks, just spin one up and leave it running with power saving (sleep mode) disabled - it will run continuously 24/7 as a server should.

It's probably easier to use Ubuntu server, as ZorinOS is based on Ubuntu and that way you don't have to strip out the DE and all the other desktop specific stuff you don't need when using it a server.

My highlighting above.

My seems to me obvious question is what server do you have currently?

Other than that, I defer to our other Helpers, I have little to no server experience.

This just to clarify.

Cheers

Can I get Ubuntu server with GUI? I watched some videos on it already before I asked this question and it's all command line isn't it?

As for our server is this one.

I am going to load it with three very large capacity HDD and in bay one a small SSD for OS. I had a PCI-E card with a SSD on it but the BIOS won't let me use that drive. Which sucks. I really wanted the 4 large drives for our work storage.

The point of most server setups is to do everything with the cli, you can install a GUI/DE on Ubuntu Server but that would then defeat the purpose of using it instead of ZorinOS. If you want a GUI/DE with your server setup then you might as well just use ZorinOS.

Ok, I find it easier to do stuff witha gui, I am not a coder, programmer etc. I just want to run the software I need to do the job with little fuss and resistance.

I'm not a programmer either, most server software is meant to be run and setup with cli only.

I will give it a shot and see what happens. US that is. Before i Ioad Zorin on it.
