Aquired underused Canon MG2550S in fine working order. Wired connection. I stumbled to get it to print a test sheet and a Libre Office Letter - it prints well. But wont print anything else. According to Canon, they dont still offer support for this combination.
I have an HP PC running Mint Cinnamon 6.2.9
Printer icon bottom right of scren displays message
Status PPD version (5.3.3)is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.3.4, Please run '/usr/sbin/cups-genppdupdate' as administrator
Please advise if that needs a command and anything else that i should do/consider.
TIA Chris.

in theory, you should have no problems as drivers for most PIXMA printers are in the repository, [for scanning use document scanner in Mint you may need to install SAINE drivers]
install mint [or if running live] plug in printer cable and switch on, open menu [lm bottom left of screen] go to search and input printer, and it should come up with print settings, open print settings, do you have a symbol of a printer with cannon on it ? dose it have a green tick? you're ready to go,
If you have the symbol but a red cross then right click and set as default, if no symbol at all try clicking on add printer.

Thank you. Followed all that.
Moved tick from 490 printer in box to 2550 and made default. Tried printing an email. FAILED. Blue intruction as per previous appeared on printer icon bottom right.

No joy I'm sad to say.
Spoke to Canon this morning. No driver available from them.
Chris

I think it may be a dependency issue, try [switch on printer and run]
sudo apt update && apt fix -- missing
Followed by
sudo apt install -f

then give the printer another go

if you have no luck with the above then the only other option is to download and install the cannon drivers from the far east [not available from cannon UK site for some reason, i don't know]

Good Morning.

Happy News. Installed Asia Driver and ---It PRINTS!!

Most grateful for all your guidance

Thankyou Chris
