It starts - I just inherited a Windows 10 box

The esu's only extend to 2026

For normal people. Right now, they're saying it's good for up to three years for businesses.

If enough people pay for it, I wouldn't even be mildly surprised if they decided to extend it for regular users. If it's making them a serious amount of money, they may change their deadlines -- especially as they'll continue doing the work anyhow.

After all, they're already doing the work for business SKUs. Why not just include regular users in that?

I'm reminded of when they extended XP support. I'm sure some businesses paid for it but experienced users learned that there was a reg edit that they could do to get suppor for that same length of time. I have no idea if there's a 'reg hack' for this. I've not paid much attention to the Windows scene for a long time.

Why not ? This is msoft we are talking about. They dont always follow the 'nice' path...

if there is a reg hack, it will be eagerly sought after....and msoft will prob release an 'update' to destroy the reg hack...lol

Oh... No... No, they'd not do it to be nice. They'd do it because they can charge people $30 a year.

And, if people get used to that, they can keep working towards charging people periodically for their operating system.

It's only Day 2 of whatever this mess winds up being called and I've already got a conversion story. It's silly and it's boring and we've all got 'em, but I'll save y'all the pain and get straight to the punchline...

Never assume your installation medium isn't the problem.
