Solved I need help with Debian Linux.

Solved issue
I have a netinstall version to trixie with kde 6 installed and several programs I use. Total disk usage here is 14.28 Gbs
mine is a SSD and I use legacy bios not uefi so with uefi I would expect it to be a few gbs more.

"" A network install or netinst CD is a single CD/USB which enables you to install the entire operating system. This single CD/USB contains just the minimal amount of software to install the base system and fetch the remaining packages over the Internet.

Yup. There are reasons why Debian remains awesome. Many of us use Debian or a child/grandchild version of Debian.

For example, even though you know it - but for other readers, Ubuntu is derived from Debian and Linux Mint is derived from Ubuntu (unless you use LMDE, of course).

And LMDE, (Linux Mint Debian Edition), is a significant player in the Linux ecosystem. It combines the stability and security of the Debian operating system with the user - friendly interface and tools characteristic of Linux Mint.

That sounds not unreasonable (14.28) but UEFI and larger size do not always go hand in hand.

Dave you are not quite on the same playing field as the OP in three (3) regards
  • Legacy versus UEFI
  • Debian 13 'Trixie' versus Debian 12.x 'Bookworm' and
  • KDE Plasma 6.x versus KDE Plasma 5.27
My install meets those criteria.

Using the same reporting mechanism as that of the OP, and also revealing a portion of the Menu, in the following screenshot

nVof302.png

  1. You can see from the Resources Monitor, only 8.8 GiB to install
  2. From the Menu - although, as @Condobloke has pointed out, in part, from above
  3. This single CD/USB contains just the minimal amount of software to install the base system and fetch the remaining packages over the Internet.
... it is still not a totally frugal or bare bones or minimalist install. It includes
  4. All of the Libre Office productivity suite
  5. GIMP, and some others.

In other words, enough to get you going.

I have twelve (12) KDE distros in my stable of 70+, and I have the figures on space consumption ready to publish should someone wish to compare (you may find it useful for future planning) so just say the word and I can oblige.

I found the netinst method to be lacking in at least three (3) areas, being
  1. It is nowhere near as user friendly as the usual installer, Calamares
  2. It results in your User not having sudo access, so I had to assume Root and issue
    Code:
    usermod -aG sudo chris
  3. It does not install Timeshift, whereas the standard Debian does
All of that being said, you have probably had enough of me and I will retire.

@User_348 if you have need of me, just start to type in @wiz and it will auto-complete to @wizardfromoz , and I will appear in a puff of smoke when I can.

Cheers

No, actually, but don't panic.

Welcome to linux.org @User_348 :)

Four of the folks above are my good friends, so they will know I mean no offence when I say to three of them that there is no way known a fresh Debian install should take up 26 GiB. It should consume less than half that.

Brian @Condobloke is likely closest to the money with what he says at #8

That being said, I have not used netinst, iso, nor do I have an NVMe SSD.

I do have an M2 SSD and both internal and external SATA hard drives, so I will run some tests for comparison.

Allow for my being on east coast Australia.

Cheers

PS I will choose KDE Plasma for the DE (desktop environment) as it will likely take up the most space, but if you get a chance @User_348 you could let me now which one you chose?
I use KDE Plasma also for my DE.
