I just noticed some things in my popup vcard that I hadn't paid any attention to before.

What do these "Reaction score", "Points" and "Credits" reflect?

I think I have this mostly correct.

Messages: The number of times you've posted a comment.
Reaction: The number of reactions people have had (like the thumbs up).
Points: Trophy points, which don't mean much of anything after a certain point - but they're for completing certain actions like posting, posting a new thread, first vote, etc... (You're already a 'well-known member'.)
Credits: An accumulation of credits for number of topics posted, comments, and post lengths. They're meaningless for now.

When you get to 1,000 Posts, you'll get some more points and a message.

Maximum points is 113.

With phpBB, we have 'Posts', and 'Thanks' (the '@' thing).....received & given. You'd be amazed how much store some people set by post count.....

Me, I don't take notice of mine from one year to the next! Couldn't care less. I know what community members think of my contributions by now.....which is far more satisfying, knowing I've put summat together that others find useful.

Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.... Lolol!!

Regardless of which community we're talking about, members help each other out. Simple as that.....it's what it's all about.

Trophies, post count, points, rankings.....it's all a bit of fun. Don't read more into it than is actually there.

and 'Thanks' (the '@' thing)

Is that a native/default/built-in thing in phpBB now? I haven't played with it in years. I should do so.

@KGIII :-

AFAIK, David, that's a plugin. So Erik - rockedge, our Admin - tells me. Always been the case with phpBB; in OOTB trim, it IS pretty basic......but you can customize the hell out of it with all the different plugins available (mostly home-grown, courtesy of the very active phpBB community).

Thanks. That's what I thought.

And, yeah, there's a ton of ways to customize the more popular forum software/scripts. I'm biased, but I prefer SMF, but I have played with most of them at one time or another.

As I'd assumed with this one, I'll continue to assume, and say that they all ship with just some basic features. They function primarily as forums straight out of the box. They then become more interesting and featureful environments when you start adding on functionality from their add-ons/extensions/plugins.

I don't see too many forums that haven't been modified in multiple ways. People expect a variety of features above and beyond what the base install provides, so there are extensions that make it more your own.

Then, of course, there are myriad themes available - including customizing the theme on your own. Even then, I can usually tell which script is running behind the scenes just by looking at it. If that doesn't tell me, clicking a few posts and reading the URL will tell me. If even that doesn't work, you can read the source and figure it out. One of those will give it away.
