WiFi keeps disconnecting

I have a spare 2m cat 6 cable I sometimes plug into my Laptop to get the same download speed as my Tower.

I have a cat 6 cable here I use from time to time also has always worked well.

The cable arrived, I hooked it up and so far it seems to be working great (Me; rapping on nearest tree...).

Thanks again for the help. I can't believe I didn't think of this myself!

that is because most people look only at what they have in front of them, They don't often look at the other options. It is called tunnel vision and we all suffer from it at times.

Glad it's working for you :)

Please read the whole Thread...Towers don't use WIFI.

System logs...really...all the OP needs is a cable.

actually I have seen quite a few towers and desktops with built in wifi. But you are correct, wifi is stupid for a computer that does not move unless putting a wire in is just not possible.

My first Tower was in 2001...ran XP...cable to Modem.

All since are cable to Modem...If it came to choice...it's cable every time...WIFI is just too slow.
When my Motherboard failed in my Tower over three years ago..I ran my cat 6 cable from the Modem to my Laptop for the reason above.

One of my desktop systems uses wireless. I have CAT6 to most rooms, but it'd require running a cable across the room. So, it uses wireless. Not everyone has their computer within a reasonable distance from their router. Many households have more than one computer. Not everyone wants cables draped across their house, the expense of running cables, or the hassle of doing so themselves.

This may help to determine which cable you need

way to bring a nuclear weapon to kill a mosquito. He does not need that level of information. In fact I don't think 99% of people need that level of information. Most of that is beyond what even most professionals use.
Good information but way more than needed for this.

To make sure it is dead - lol - when I was working with Sandia National Labs setting up 10 ft satellite Internet dishes in Afghanistan back in the day this was minimum knowledge you needed to know depending on speed of the system - those dishes cost $32,000 US a month to operate and that was back in 2018 we were transmitting SAR (Synthetic Aperature Radar) Imagery from a UAV back to the US for counter IED missions - we were running cat6a or 7 back then
knowledge is always a good thing

wow. I never gone over cat 6. never needed and even the cat 6 was overkill but used to be ready for future expansion.
