Solved issue

Okay... I don't know what happened, but I unplugged the dongle out of random curiosity and...now the onboard adapter is functioning properly?

Bizarre. Did a resource free up somehow? I recently had a similar issue with an eSATA port.

I don't know. It's possible one of the options yesterday fixed it, even though I restarted after most of them and it didn't seem to do anything.

Just an interesting side note here. My wi-fi chipset is on my motherboard, but lspci doesn't see it.
lsusb does. Even though its a chipset on the motherboard, it's connected to the USB bus, not the PCI bus.
