Hi all, I have repurposed an old laptop running windows 8/10. I deleted all partitions set a single partition and formatted it, then loaded Mint 23.2 so far all good.

In firefox i opened a page for HERE mapping to download and update my car navigation, I logged in and followed links to the download page, but the link to download does not work

I am expecting it to download and install a piece of software call Map Updater which then controls the download and stores it to a USB stick

What should I try to get the link to work?

Hello @GeorgeB
Welcome to the Linux.org forum, enjoy!
Sorry can''t be of much help if the link is not working you might try another browser. But if it still does not download I would contact the company if possible. I know my gps would only update using windows. Maybe if you tell us which page we can help more.

To get to the actual link you need a log in but the web page is https://jaguar.here.com/index.php

A copy of the link is
heremapdownloader://delivery.cc.api.here.com/delivery/*/AAAAJSsD0kSShjq30qnmuVjp8UI8Ng0F5bS5DTmDxvcyof_7oCPzSAAGNxbn8l46AVS662IBiqq7Rdm_KQmfCJCjjYFN0QcHw1gGX53gG4mKAnPuj39MtMwCULBrsZz2ozPt74GoPa002v-mrisxYSCqbUHkew7WzGXIuvKOE_9A-_30A-nRAMUUopDpthCne8AaLuZFhVMM-CZHnbCpFZQO8yVs8odva98STGNBMHfQQIu-2dQOWazsttMc5fNWmieQNYL_bk7c2vjumAu1oC4CXKFdQl1Nyl0D7kiOxn7ED6QmYVhjhvogVVgA_VLeTHuy-GUHlCckGmVQaGLs9fBTdiFB5CHUoo-HVJMocgrVuIxUElEAy_H2pI3UCi3UI5ne7f6o2VBj5NLHSaqEbt-T1GkwhmIS1dwy5LNbXU6iuie2pb6-qVvA6-EIZkh7EMf4n0HmvG-pnFQjN-AhPodYIg

What kind of links are you posting here? You using a refurbished laptop, yet you're using Jaguar maps for navigation which would make me assume you have a Jaguar car?

Of course it won't let me to that page you linked with out being signed in. I strongly suspect that it will only work in windows though. You could try the chromium browser see if that works.

You may have the same problem as me, I have a Hyundai /Kia [they are the same thing] and their map updater will only work with Windows 10 or 11, I could not get it to work using Wine or a Windows VM, so I resorted to keeping a windows drive just for use twice a year to update my maps.

heremapdownloader://delivery.cc.api.here.com/delivery/*/.......

per the AI Gods (Gemini, et al):
The heremapdownloader:// link relies on a custom protocol handler meant only for the Windows or macOS - the specific heremapdownloader:// URI scheme relies on internal proprietary tokens and encrypted APIs unique to Jaguar and Land Rover vehicle updates. Because Linux doesn't have a native version of this specific application, you must use a Windows compatibility layer like Wine to install the executable and register the custom protocol. No community-created tool or Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) method exists to replace it.

I have downloaded google chrome the link now open a popup with 'Open with' No program to open with found.

Yes it is a refurbished machine. I am 67 and happy to learn new skills. I use my Macbook to download the files needed for the car navigation It does look like HERE does not support Linux

I am now trying to load Chrome within wine, but doesnt work with Chromesetup.exe and I cant find a copy of chromeinstaller.exe

Thank you for the info. I have been trying Wine
My old Lenova running Win 10 was no good so I replaced it with a Macbook! So I can update the maps when required

I am learning new skills with LINUX if it works great, if it doesnt i will pass the laptop to someone who can get some use out of it

Hi
The laptop was going to the trip last week, however I am trying to give it new life. I have basic computing skills. so decided to play with Linux.
From my own playing around and other info from other contributors it would seem HERE mapping do not support LINUX

That's cool!, but if you're going to post links, it's not very useful if you have to login to see the actual information. Most vendors of proprietary software don't support Linux because of not being a large part of their user base, so that's not much of Linux problem but more of vendor not wanting to support Linux because it costing them extra money for probably nothing in return. Most people use their phone now days for navigation where they use Google Maps, you could also just use Google Maps on Linux in the web-browser or the official but not sure what your actual goal is here to do with a mapping program?
