I'm using windows 10 in my vm and am trying to run an install file for a program I need. The usb plugged in isn't being recognized by the vm and when I click on devices/usb the option to make changes to the usb settings is greyed out. It shows the usb is enabled and is using usb 3.0 but I can't copy any files from it. I added my linux usermane to the user group but that didn't help. Any help would be appreciated.

If the Host is Linux...my Host is Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1...and I assume you're trying to get a Flash Drive or USB Printer to work in a Virtual Machine ?
With the Virtual Machine open and minimised...
You must add yourself to the vbox user group...to do this open the Terminal on the Host and type...sudo usermod -a -G your user name (mine is bob).
Hit Enter...enter your password...when it's done...close the Terminal and Reboot the computer.

Now your Flash Drive or Printer will work...note G is uppercase. I have a windoze 7 VM and I have to do the above...hope this helps.

I hope you also have the Extention Pack installed too.
