When trying to install nvidia drivers on Debian system is not booting and seems to freeze. Freeze happens when it shows config failed, hub doesn't have any ports err. Also had a really hard time disabling neaouvo default video driver. Tried both non-free (550) nvidia driver and latest .run (580) driver from nvidia

What has worked so far: Emergency mode with X11.

Currently using Arch and would like to use a Debian based system, since some apps i use don't have official packages for Arch and would prefer that. No issues so far with Arch based would just want the official packages and more guarantee for stability in the long run. Considering the official packages more security comes to mind.

Is this a common issue and do you guys know how to fix this? Wont be using X11 just Wayland

on my last rig I had an nvidia card and used MX Linux (debian derived), never really had any issues with the nvidia drivers. did you disable secure boot in the bios?

on the Arch side of things, have you considered debtap? --> https://aur.archlinux.org/packages?O=0&K=debtap

Just using vanilla Debian. Also tried Nvidia drivers from official repo, but is just 550, which is ancient. Don't even think my gpu had support yet at the time. And didn't run the check thing. Have disabled secure boot since i first installed linux and haven't changed that since.

I'd rather get directly from their repo. I am not trying to be hard to deal with and all but i rather that without any tricks if that makes sense.

Figured it out eventually to get latest driver fully working, followed video from Linux Renaissance. Thanks for trying to help :)
