In my defense, I was out driving a lovely car. I did check in a few times, and I've been home for hours. It just sorta slipped my mind. I dunno how that happens, 'cause I've certainly been doing this long enough.

Anyhow, today we're decompressing/extracting files from a 'tar.bz2' file. Granted, it's not something you're absolutely need - but it can come in handy. I decrompess files on servers fairly regularly, 'cause I have lousy bandwidth. (I'm still mad at my DSL provider. It is what it is.)

So, yes... Yes, it is in the terminal. Yes, there are GUI methods. Those are less than helpful when working with a server, so some folks might find this helpful... They're just likely to be a very small number.

Ha, ha, terminals work better & faster than a GUI anyway. ;)

Especially true when you've gained familiarity and confidence. You can also learn tricks like tab autocompletion and aliases to help you make it even faster.

Oh, and it helps to learn when it's safe to use wildcards.
