Frankly, very few of you have good reasons to go mucking about with these settings - but sometimes you do need to make some adjustments. Also, there's the whole 'because I can' reason, which I suppose will suffice.


So, go change those open file limits. Unless you set them absurdly low, you probably won't actually break anything - or even make a difference.

Yeah, there's really no reason for you to change those values. In fact, there's no reason for most people to change those settings. Now, if you're on a supercomputer and need to have a ton of files open at once, you might want to change things.

That describes pretty much none of us on linux.org.
