core used to be based on Slackware , hence the name but the developer shifter core of system to Debian based . Its ok but another approach is simply to put different linux os that run live on a usb and see how they play out. having persistence for a live OS on a usb is no major problem these days - so i guess slax has quite a bit of competition. EndeavourOS runs live and booted no problem on wifes laptop only with 2gig ram. I got lubuntu to run on 500mb of ram on old tower
