Solved REALLY, REALLY Slow start up. What to do???

Solved issue
I shall continue watching: Watson S01E08

I turned the 2nd monitor screen off.

I shall pop it back on around 5pm....approx 3 hours from now

The beauty of having two monitors, is that I can leave the laptop in the third bedroom.

I regularly watch a show on one....and type replies on the other

When it becomes chaotically busy, I use both monitors for Linux-type use...occasionally having just a search page (for which I have a keyboard shortcut) and Zimdesktop Wiki open on one and the working page of whichever topic on the other
Sounds messy?...not at all. It serves to make my life much easier, and way better organised.

When that test finishes, there is a "View Output" at the bottom of the main screen.

if you click on that it will show you a summary of what has transpired. it opens a smallish window....you can expand it read it....and then you can click the 'Close' button.
This will not affect the scan if it happens to be still running

I routinely, well for the last few days anyway I jump around on this forum from my tower to the laptop to phone...

I hate laptops. Phone is a necessary evil

I saw that when it finished the short test. I tried o save it as a text doc. Couldn't. So I thought I could sign in here from Linux Live and paste the output in a post.

If you hear a very loud BOOM from somewhere on eastern US coast... Something went wrong!
Oof! I thought that was a thunderstorm as it coincided with some decent sized hail. ;)

Done!

very good !

Tomorrow:

You are already in the Live Mode.....on the desktop there is an icon.."Install Linux Mint"

if you are ready, double click on that.....that will start the install of LM22.1

During the install, click to install multi media codecs etc

When it comes to the

Installation Type.png

....Click to erase disc and Install Linux Mint. This WILL wipe it clean, and then install 22.1

When it has finished, enable the firewall

Code:
 sudo ufw enable

then check it is on

Code:
sudo ufw status

Then....install the voluminous pile of updates...All of them......there will be a Kernel update in among them so reboot when they finally finish.

Then set up Timeshift and Create a snapshot

Pick a dazzling new wall paper for my screen!
Do you want me to post the wallpaper of my dog so you wouldn't have to use some kind of a cat wallpaper? :D

Edit: Also, if need be, and if you happen to be in the extreme eastern part of Ohio, I wouldn't be above stopping by with a screwdriver (or a hammer) to take a look at that machine, though certain days of the week might be hard to manage.

All of that is why I'm going to do it in the morning, with my coffee and a fresh brain! I haven't recuperated enough to pull all-nighters without compromising my ability to process gibberish!

I already learned my place, where I sit in the caste system the cats established so well, so long ago...

I don't think they would be pleased!

Hmmm... the "catse" system is such a rigid hierarchy.

With dogs, I sometimes get to pretend to be in charge.

With dogs, I sometimes get to pretend to be in charge.

I guess that would be when you're not bathing them, trimming their toe-nails, grooming, feeding, entertaining them...
Meh! Dogs are needy. They have to be potty trained...

Potty training is beneath a cat! And so is peeing on the floor. All they need is to know where the litter box is. If they approve of the location, the box and the litter they will use it.

On the other hand we have months of soiled potty training pads placed ever closer to the front door because dogs are slow learners...

Oh, you just had to mention the potty training thing! Georgie and I just came back in from going outside "to use the grass"... but she didn't really have to go out any more after having "used the kitchen floor".

The problem is she's just to cute to scold her with a straight face unless I actually catch her in the act. Otherwise she just looks at me like, "Are you coming to play?" and pretends to have no idea what she's done. She's an expert at not getting caught in the act.

Still, when a cat mauls your hand, it usually means business. When Georgie mauls my hand, its all just noise (and saliva). Dollar, of course would -never- play the "eat your hands off" game with a human because she is a "good dog" - and she really tried to teach Georgie better.
