Post a screenshot of your Desktop

One from not too long ago

Are you guys really discussing my screenshot? Isn't it clear that this is Microsoft Windows?

Someone said it was a theme. So it's not? How are you getting updates with Windows 7 it's really Windows?

My old Windows 7 Pro (32 bit) box (appears to have) pulled down a security update as recently as three weeks ago - although the update itself appears to be much older than that. I see that the same update is listed as having been installed -and- is still listed as available to download and install, so maybe not. The machine has tightly limited exposure, so it's no biggie.

I've given someone a permanent vacation because they've continued to post in languages other than English and they've been told to use English multiple times, from multiple members of staff.

Staff should not have to edit posts to tell them (again) that they need to post only in English.

My favorite is Pemaquid Point. Though they've done some construction on the site, it's still my favorite. If you get out of the car and do some exploring, you can climb a hill to find a delightful restaurant. I want to say that the name has changed, but it's now called the SeaGull. Food was amazingly cheap for the conditions.

There used to be a fisherman's co-op, but now it's owned by a company. They sell lobster and all of that. I haven't been over that way in a bit, but they used to have the 'catch of the day'. I mention that because the restaurant up on the hill would cook and serve that same catch of the day. I do not know how true this is today.

And, especially considering their location, quality, reputation, and more, they were still amazingly inexpensive. A meal involving the catch of the day would be maybe $20. Even their lobster was cheap (for what it was). It was not much higher than 'boat price'. Generally speaking, they served a lot of food that came directly from the fisherman's co-op. It was just down the hill.

I discovered the place when I first went to the lighthouse, which was entirely by accident. The restaurant is so good that I make it a point to stop there when I'm in the area. I've also made it a specific destination, even though it's a bit of a drive. It'd be under three hours, but you're sure to stop somewhere along the way. It'll largely take the entire day for me to go to the coast, which is not something I'm complaining about.

Man, I really need to get over there sometime soon. I should do it before Memorial Day. The missus hasn't even been there, which tells you that it has been a while since I went there. The place is interesting. There's a museum and an art gallery (from which I've bought a couple of pieces). In town, there's a quaint ice cream shop.

It fills up with tourists pretty quickly. Thus my desire to get there before Memorial Day.

The following is not my desktop background. Nor is it my image. I just went and found a cool image of the Pemaquid Point lighthouse. I'll share it, in case someone else wants to use it.

There were multiple sources for the image, so I do not know who gets the credit for such an awesome picture. I really dig the reflection in the tidal pool.
Beauty, eh?:p

I still use vista-And 7- ad 8.1 and Xp- and 98(Rarely)- Some of my mint installs have some sort of windows dual-boot with a retro version. Even have 2000RC2 On a VM (NON PIRATED). Found a Install disk on eBay.
I like the windows GUI-Linux customizability- fruit CO's glass. Win7 on up are still quite usable, and if you keep malware bytes up to date- you can keep trucking for a while (but still don't recommend it as holes are not being fixed.). Win vista/XP are still somewhat vaguely usable- hey, even 2000rc2 could connect to some extent. (Frogfind) No more anti-virus, no more on-line. Still, unsupported, but shockingly usable. Also seen on a news article about modding windows, technically you can get new updates going all the way back to vista. Nice DE's too!

(Was originally written before pics, when that w7 DE was here) now rock plasma with a Matrix-animated wallpaper.

Absolutely. I haven't yet seen every lighthouse in Maine. That's sort of on my list of things to do. As of yet, that's my favorite lighthouse. It probably helps that there's a nice small community around it, and that I've had great experiences there.

Haven’t posted here since Jan 5, 2022, when I was using Pop!_OS but I’m back on Linux now, and this time with a real plan to stay.

I'm currently running Ubuntu Server 25.10 with Xfce and X11 manually installed. I built this setup from the ground up: installed only what I need, and compiled a few key tools myself like GOverlay, MangoHud, and others to optimize performance and make it mine. It runs lighter and smoother than most pre-packaged desktop environments, and honestly, it's finally at the point where I don't feel like I'm missing much from Windows.

I’ve got most of the sub-tools and apps in place to fully replace my Windows workflow. A few things are still missing, but I’m very close and for the first time, it really feels sustainable.

Oh, and the wallpaper? That’s a photo I took myself at the Zagreb Zoo. Felt fitting for a system that’s all about observation, control, and freedom.

Here’s how my desktop looks now:
