Tried to leave a review from my 'software manager'. told me i had to sign in.
tried to create an account, it told me i had to have a registration code from my linux mint user profile.
of course, I don't have an account there, so i tried to create one and it told me i had to have a registration code from my mint user profile.
wut?
so I tried to get help from their 'mint community' forums, and it forced me to create an account at matrix.org to access the forums.
so i did that, and then when i logged in there... NO MINT COMMUNITIES.

and this is exactly why linux is always going to be a tiny sliver of the world, because even getting help is a freaking joke built on rickety pile of garbage.

but i'm sure someone will say: just use wine or just use this <insert sorta, kinda clone of what I'm trying to use>.

Your experience is not the Normal for Mint, I've used mint on and off since their beginning and have never encountered any of the issues you have. Linux is Growing, Don't know if they will ever be world desktop leaders but they already have most of the server market. As for Matrix it is not the main forum for help. That is found here Linux Mint forum

I once saw a bug report that was closed as "nobody cares".

But root cause of such attitude is that open source community works for free, they're not paid to bow before users or to be polite, so yeah, who cares about what somebody thinks if authors don't care about feedback, go make your own thing if you want and collect feedback yourself.

But anyway you're making a mistake, you generalize Linux based on experience with some Mint feature.
Why should anyone who is not Mint user care?

A lot of people don't use Mint and don't experience any issues that Mint users do, so please criticize Mint not Linux in general.

I visited a Mint-based computer, and it looks like Mint provides its own software manager. It's called mintinstall, for the curious.

Which reinforces:

A lot of people don't use Mint and don't experience any issues that Mint users do, so please criticize Mint not Linux in general.

That there's a Mint thing. It doesn't represent Linus as a whole. Give me a few hours, and I can create my own distro. When I start adding custom software to it (which one probably should, if they're going to really call it their own distro), the blame lies with me. Buggy software is the fault of the contributors to said software. This being Linux, that can be a whole lot of other people.

I'll also remark that Linux is just the kernel. No more. No less.

In any Linux Mint, you can go to the Start Menu and start to type in

welcome

and be greeted by the following (I always leave mine checked to show at each start)

On clicking Help, you get

The Web Forums option takes you to where friend @kc1di indicated above.

They may be able to provide a venue for you to provide feedback on your

...rickety pile of garbage.

Cheers

In general terms the below links may help

This post makes no sense.

no, expecting me to use a code to make an account that can only be gotten from the control panel IN the account page makes no sense.

does that make sense? sorry if it was too convoluted for you.

What code...what control panel in what account page. ?

Show me where you claim you tried to leave a comment in the Software Manager...

I worked out what you did...you're getting the Software Manager confused with the Welcome Screen aren't you.

In the Welcome Screen you clicked...Chat Room instead of Web Forums didn't you.

Which sent you here...

Then here...

You created the problem...but we are here to help. In more than 10 years of using Linux Mint...I've never used this matrix thing and I don't think anyone else on this Forum has either.

I have cleaned up this thread, so that it is a little more civil.

To the OP

start at the top and read the thread

Now please do so yourself, and you will see that it was you who were confused.

I would warn the Members who know who they are, that if the inflammatory comments persist, someone or two will be taking an early Christmas vacation. Regardless of their friendships with me.

OP - if you make your way to the Linux Mint forums and post a review that includes comments like

and this is exactly why linux is always going to be a tiny sliver of the world, because even getting help is a freaking joke built on rickety pile of garbage.

...I don't have to polish off my crystal ball to predict that you will get shorter shrift from them than here.

But yes, you can peruse their forum without being encumbered with taking out a membership, but will have to do so if you wish to post, and it will not be through Matrix.

This is my worst fear. When your supposed to be sitting home in the Christmas season near your Christmas tree and presents you find yourself suddenly in the Bahamas burning in the sun. All brought to you by a Wizard vacation.

Well, all that being as it may, I asked a question of the OP back in post #7......which I will reproduce below:

I just noticed and moved this to the Mint sub-forum.
Personally I think this topic belongs in off-topic because it just being a rant, not a complaint where some information is provided or a technical question. I will discuss it with the other mods.

Greetings brains.,
I have been using LM for about 10 years. I have never had any of the problems you so carefully and clearly mentioned@@@@@
Perhaps you were elevated to the next class in high school when maybe you would have profited from being flunked in English class.
Just an old geezer on a rant again.
Anyhow, welcome to the forum.
