Solved Mint 22.2 and Vivaldi

Solved issue
I use Mullvad vpn. Not all the time...it is off more than it is on.

But, when it is on, linuxmint.com will be blocked.....by securi.

This has been happening for a number of months. The same happens if I try to access the lott...official home of Australian Lotteries..... it doesnt seem to matter which vpn.....they see another country involved and block is the immediate reaction.

Linuxmint.com would have good reason for keeping securi cranked up....ddos attacks etc etc are the norm, and mint.com is a big site, so it attracts big attacks. (an assumption on my part)

Not a biggie, really....if you need to go to linuxmint.com, just turn the vpn off. I visit linuxmint.com as often as I visit my grandmother.....and she's been dead and gone for over 60 years.

Securi is essentially (at least in this instance) a WAF. It has a variety of options for blocking traffic. One of those options is to block requests from a list of IP addresses known to be VPN addresses. You can also block TOR, entire countries, IP ranges, or even just single addresses.

In this case, it's likely that they had the settings set to block known VPNs.

If I want to download a Mint ISO...I can go here...https://www.linuxmint.com with my VPN on and with any server.
Not all servers are blocked...so it's a Forum problem.

I have just been surprised. I stated somewhere here in a previous post(I think) that accessing linuxmint.com with my vpn enabled, invariably resulted in a securi error blocking me.

But....not today !
Mullvad is Enabled. Connected vis Switzerland (my usual setting) I click on Bob's link above and I am connected to linuxmint.com ......instantly.

Edit to add: being a touch suspicious by nature, I closed this topic and Thunderbird email, and then reconnected.

Same result. Mullvad vpn is not triggering an error.

Someone over at linuxmint.com is playing with securi settings.

If you go to my above site and click "Links" (top right) and click "Forums," you get "Forbidden."

No, you get forbidden, lol, I get in.

Go figure.

Just a thought, have you tried changing software sources?

I am currently using Aarnet for both Main and Base.

^^^....ditto

However !

Without vpn, I also get in

WITH vpn....I get in to the main site......but I DO NOT get access to the forums via the links

and just to hammer it to death.....
forums/linuxmint.com ....entered manually is also forbidden while running the vpn (mullvad)
entry is allowed without the vpn

No, you get forbidden, lol, I get in.

Go figure.
That's because you're not using a VPN...if I turn mine off I get in too.

Albania...Indonesia...Belgium and the Netherlands...to name just a few work but many others don't...anyway it's not that great a site...so no one is missing much.

Understood.

Bottom line is that it is not the forum itself having the problems. They are actively blocking certain VPNs using certain servers in order to mitigate DDoS attacks, and other actions from bad actors.

Oh well.
