It's not an insult i really like to use very much: i think in the end it just means someone who's always kind of irritable and brags about the things they do in a condescending way. Sometimes edgelords are sarcastic, sometimes not, sometimes macho, sometimes not...but i believe the common thread is the bragging and belittling. Some people throw the insult around pretty freely, just as a way to lash out against people who they disagree with. I have found that there are mutliple definitions of edgelord online, so not a very useful thing to talk about. "The Edgelord" is whoever you make them out to be.
"Edgelord" fits some of the impressions i get of "the arch elite" but i wouldn't say that about arch users in general because it does have functionality beyond raw narcissism. Clearly OP was enjoying the ride for a little while and is now re-considering...It is a route for extreme DIY computing short of coding and compiling the operating system yourself. Funny thing is that before Ubuntu came around, compiling linux distros was a requirement, i believe...make files make it fairly easy, even though you would have to have more knowledge to fix the compile errors of how software works without getting confused.
