Using MX Linux 23.6 and I have several usb flash drives that I want to copy and transfer into Thunar File Manager to the appropriate folder, eg., pictures, documents, etc. I am new and trying to learn but it is frustrating not to be able to just "drag and drop" as I was accustomed with Windows (or perhaps there is and I just don't know how). I've tried researching online but no joy. Help please!
TIA

but it is frustrating not to be able to just "drag and drop"
I have moved hundreds of photos singularly and in block between various drives, my master record and my pictures all by drag and drop

I just installed Thunar to see and I can copy, paste, and drag & drop. But, "it works here" isn't really helpful for you.

Can you explain further? Are you getting some sort of error when you try?

Can you drag and drop normally but have issues only when you're trying to drag stuff to a USB thumbdrive?

Sorry, but I fail to understand how these links are pertinent to my query.

How Do I Install Linux (A General Guide) • Linux Tips

I have opened Thunar File Manager and plugged in usb and give it a moment to be recognized. I've tried dragging and dropping from usb to appropriate folder. Then I open the folder and there is nothing there. So, I tried copying and pasting and still no success. I don't understand what I am doing wrong.

Are you using a Window Manager instead of a full fledged Desktop Environment?

I would first guess that this is a permissions issue. You'll likely need to take ownership of the content and it may not work properly if the USB thumbdrives are using NTFS as the file system.

Others can talk you through changing the permissions, if that's actually the case.

No, as I have previously stated I open Thunar File Manager and then plug in usb, wait for a moment to see that it is recognized as it shows 16g usb. Do I have to ensure that the usb is mounted correctly before "copy and paste" or "drag and drop" work?

All of the USB's were created within the Windows Environment and you are probably correct that the file system is NTSF.

it's stuff in the signature block - many folks here like to paste helpful links in them (see below)

Click on the usb 16 gigabyte drive to open and show the files.
Then right click on one of the files and select 'properties' in the drop down menu.

You'll see Basic Emblems, Permission, Open With, Notes and Documents.
Click on Permissions.

Who is the owner? Root?
Is it Read Only, Read and Write? Give details please.

Permissions Explained:-

I am not convinced that Permissions factor into this.

I have produced a small video.

@Sikntired take a look at the video and see if it is what you are attempting to do or have tried to do.

Try its steps, and if you have problems let us know, in either event please let us know how you get on.

@Alexzee, thanks for suggestions, however I do not think it is a "permissions issue". I am a noob to MX Linux and endeavoring to gain knowledge to utilize this OS to its fullest potential. On researching and as wizardfromoz has pointed out there exists cross-platforming between Linux and Windows. I am currently dual-booting Windows 10 alongside MX Linux 23.6 "Libretto". It is my intention to ditch Windows 10 upon its expiration in October and use MX Linux as my primary OS.

@wizardfromoz, thank you so very much for providing the video tutorial. The content of the video is "spot on" and is exactly what I am trying to accomplish. After viewing the video I tried "dragging and dropping" a picture and it worked flawlessly as I'm sure the other options you covered will as well. Don't know what I was doing wrong before??? I appreciate the privilege of your time in helping this NOOB out. Good on ya mate!!
