Change distros or just rename...

He is really attached to you.

He's not too picky. Any hand will do, sorta. Also, he's a bit of a traitor. I've known him longer than he's known the missus but he's over under her feet as I type this.

This one trained easily. The one I had before was also really easy to train.

I have a mean (but necessary) trick that he does. I can put a chunk of meat on the floor and tell him no. I only need to tell him once. After that, you can try to get him to eat that meat. In fact, I have a running bet with people. I'll bet you any amount of money (but you can not touch the dog to harm him) that you can't make my dog eat something I told him not to eat.

This can be good fun when you've come home late from the bar with a few drunken friends.

He is not fond of doing this trick - but he does it and does it without fail.

I can leave the house and he won't eat the meat. I'm sure he'd eat it if he was starting to get too hungry and didn't have his dog food available. I've never tested it for too long 'cause that's just too mean.

But, he has to know what he can't eat, especially in the woods where there are plants or animals that might be unhealthy if he ate them. At the end of the day, he's a lovable working dog and I need to keep him safe.

Anyhow, I didn't comment previously so that I wouldn't derail the thread. It's a perfectly fine thread with a fairly straight topic. I was just sharing in OP's joy a bit. Having a really good dog is a great thing. (Lots of people think they have great dogs but they don't. In fact, some of them shouldn't be allowed to own dogs.)

Amen to that

We love you Georgi, I hope you are listening, pup

He's getting old now, but we've kept his lineage alive. It's time to retire him and have him help teach his replacement and he can enjoy his un-earned retirement. He has 'lovable' going for him.

That's the only time that I have more than one dog. During that phase, I have two dogs. The older dog sticks around for as long as he has a quality life.

Anyhow, he has learned to be patient with other dogs. He also has a mystical skill where he just somehow ends up under your hand. You'll look down and notice that you're petting him and not know quite how that happened - or even when it happened.
Dollar has that skill too - Oh look, there's a dog being petted by my very own hand. She's six years old and not a youngster any more, though I hope to have another six years or more with her. I hate to think about when she finally goes - I've been there and done that enough times in the past but not at this stage of my life. I was dogless the past few decades while I was married and Dollar is my first dog since then - heck she's not even technically my dog but belongs to "the spare hooman" (my sister). I'm thinking that having another dog or two around when that time comes will help. Dollar, and hence Georgie, carry almost a dozen generations of lineage back to the first Corgi I ever knew so hopefully we'll keep that line going as long we keep going.

Well, I sent Georgie and the spare hooman to St Louis, Missouri for the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America national specialty show. It remains to be seen how Georgie will do in the biggest conformation show she's ever likely to participate in, but their secret secondary objective has already been accomplished:

"Simply Exceptional", AKA "Tater", a brindle Cardigan girl, 4 months old today. They won't be home until Monday, so I haven't had a chance to spoil her rotten yet. I don't have a any really good pictures but the ones I have seem to show a nice long body, a remarkably long handle tail and the typical wing-like ears that can be seen in this pic.

Tater arrived on Monday. Turns out she's kinda cute.

In a horrible coincidence, I now have dogs named "Georgie" and "Tater". Should I make up an imaginary one named "Ashton"? Or should I just table the idea, or even zap it entirely?

Dollar protected me from another invisible monster yesterday. This one was much bigger than the previous ones, but turned out not to be invisible after all - it was one of those brown ones with the racing stripes.

You older guys really let me down on this one - I wanted at least a groan for that.

In the mean time, looks like little Tater is settling right in, in addition to exhausting both herself and Georgie.

Turns out Wednesday, June 4th was "International Corgi Day". Who knew? And "National Corgi Day" (in the U.S.) was back in March and I totally missed that one. I at least took some portraits of the girls on Wednesday.

Top pic....Tater... no idea of her nature, of course....But she steals the show in terms of looks !

Well, it's a good thing we're in the "off top pic" subforum.

That's Tater and she's a sweetie. She's been with us for just under two weeks now. At four months old, she still has that puppy cuteness. Her sire is the same as Georgie's and I think her head shape is about the same... A little narrower than Dollar. Of course, she spent the first four months of her life with someone else, so she's not fully "acclimated to us" (spoiled) yet, but she's getting there. She just now barked me into action to take her outdoors at 3:30 AM rather than make a mess in her crate and I actually got to her in time to prevent a mess, so she is an official "good dog".

I'm tempted to say I find the blues prettier, but that's not really true - just like a head of blonde or red hair is striking on a human but doesn't really tell the whole story. Sadly, human girls don't seem to come in either blue merle or brindle and tri-color would be just weird. ;)

Yes, I know that Tater....I saw her first pic here.....and was interested.

She is slightly narrower between the eyes.....that may fill out as she ages ?

If it doesn't, she may have a slightly sharper temper?...maybe. Time will tell.

I was more looking at the over-all head width, most noticeable (to me) as the distance between the ears. Purely aesthetic - I don't think it is indicative of anything in particular - I suspect it comes to Tater and Georgie as "narrower" from their sire (whom I've never seen in person) and to Dollar as "wider" from her progenitors.

I don't think the head shape will change much as she ages. Maybe a little - I note how in this picture her head (between the ears) looks a little rounder than the older ones and I wouldn't be surprised if that flattens out a little as she grows. And I supposed that would make it a little wider looking as well.

Don't they say that, in humans, eyes closer together indicates possible criminal tendencies? 'cause they'll all steal your heart, and you said Tater already "stole the show" (and she nicked one of my socks yesterday).

....A sock nicker !

I'll understand whatever you choose to describe the incident....(where the hell is my sock !!)....would also get the message across

Mind you, while I haven't done it with -this- dog, it's not entirely unheard of for me to accidentally slip a sock onto a dog's schnozz and leave it there. It doesn't take them long to get it off, but it's kind of a funny "not long".

I slipped a sock onto my Kelpie's tail...it took some effort...but she actually held still (she was an extremely good girl).....the tears of laughter as she went around and around in circles until she finally snapped it off...I will not forget in any hurry.
Hope you are chuckling as I type this, Belle.

She actually enjoyed it.
