Change distros or just rename...

Well that escalated quickly... "Thing" opened her eyes yesterday morning and hit 1 pound 15 ounces last night. She's getting more mobile but not really up on her feet yet.

The BDE got her stitches out yesterday, too - could have been a day or two earlier bur we forgot.

Did you see me go a whole week and more without posting any pics? That's 'cause sleeping puppy pics all pretty much look the same, although the discerning eye might pick up growth cues.

I did note the absence of 'thing'

The form/lines are looking quite good

She will be one beautiful girl.

Going to have to leave the title 'thing' behind soon !

Yeah, "Deep Blue Something" is out, so I'll have to stop saying, "Thing". I'm advocating for either "Georgy Girl" or just "Small Change" because either of those is better than some of the absolutely stupid names other people are suggesting.

I've been calling her "Hippo" sometimes because in one photo she turned her head just so and I thought her face looked a bit like a tiny hippopotamus, but I've already got the word that that's a non starter for a name.

Just FYI, the second pic is an actual baby hippo. :D

She really is a 'Cutie'

Well, it looked like little Thing was finally going to actually stand up today so I got ready to take pictures ( I was like this with my kids, too ). The moment came and I got the preliminary picture (of course, she wouldn't hold her head still so that's a bit blurry)...

And she gave it her best shot, but maybe she's not quite there yet...

:)

It's tough to be little like that, even if you are enormous compared to your cousins who were born a day earlier (and who are supposedly up and about already).

Thing ... I can't believe she's four weeks old already! Starting to walk. Starting to eat puppy mush. Has a sassy little bark.

Good thing we were planning on keeping her anyway!

I think she's got your number, Mike.

Speaking of numbers, she's almost 3 pounds 5 ounces - still a bit ahead of the curve for a cardigan, I think. It's easy to forget she's so little because she's so big, if that makes any sense. We keep expecting her to act like a puppy a week or two older than she is and have to keep reminding ourselves that she's just a baby.

The BDE is pretending to be protective, but she maybe is really just jealous.

Well, today is her 5 week birthday and she:
  • has a name now. "Georgie". I had wanted it to be "Corgie Girl" but got shot down
  • weighs over 60 ounces
  • eats puppy food mush without needing much encouragement
  • follows the BDE out of the little pen - we have an ongoing battle with the BDE and pens and gates. (1)

1) should have named the BDE "Kali" since she into "pen testing" (sorry, couldn't resist)

I think you should wait until the puppy is close and then gently poke 'em in the nose while saying 'boop' for me.

Done. She snarfed my finger. :D

My dog is getting older. It'll be time to breed him soon. I've had the same lineage for at least 40 years. The old dog helps train the new dog and then the old dog gets to retire.

What breed is he, David ?

What breed is he, David ?

Golden Retriever. He's a working dog, at least in theory. He goes hunting with me. He tracks, points, and retrieves. I call the current one 'Stupid' because he's the dumbest one so far. I don't hold it against him because he's also quite lovable. He happily responds to 'Stupid' or 'Stupid Dog'.

Why is he stupid?

Well, I'll give you an example.

He can fit two tennis balls in his mouth at the same time. So, what you do is you throw three of them. He'll be busy for hours trying to figure out how to bring back all three at the same time. You can also take a long stick and throw it into the woods. He'll pick it up and try to bring it back. If it's too long to fit between the trees he'll keep working on that puzzle until you call his name (or give the correct whistle).

Dollar (the BDE) and I were out in the yard chasing the invisible monster this afternoon. We harass them, sight unseen, until we get one backed into a corner and then it will show itself... a shrew. We learned last summer not to stick our nose right up to a cornered shrew.

So I guess she's a hunting herding dog.

When Dollar goes to rally obedience class, she always has to bark the living daylights out of the pair of goldies that are there... Apparently they just have entirely too much fun! And Dollar has appointed herself the "fun police".

Sometimes, ya just gotta get yer tummy done.

Other times, ya gotta be tough.

I learned how to export frames from a video on my phone - not the highest quality stills, but I'll take it.

Have you tried using a chuckit with your dog? It's basically an atl atl for tennis balls so you can get some great distance without straining you arm. In a roundabout way, that's how the BDE gets her best exercise. Dollar could not possibly care less about the tennis ball but her "sister", Ivy, a belgian malinois, is very ball fixated. I throw the ball for Ivy, Dollar chases after Ivy, barking her fool head off the whole time (being the "fun police" again) and they both run right over the stoopid beagle and the ancient American Hairless Terrier.

Also, with the chuckit, you don't have to actually touch the slimy tennis ball to pick it up (assuming you can get the dog to put it down for you.

Well that was a busy few days... I got to babysit Georgie's five cousins for a few days. Theiy're (1) just a day older than she is, so the cute factor was off the scale. Being "lesser" cardigans (2), they're also all done up in more mundane color schemes(2), so there was no trouble identifying which was the princess. :)

Who'da thought less than 30 pounds of pups could be so exhausting?

I took this picture of Georgie as she emerged from vanquishing all those funny colored pretenders. She looks quite ready for more playtime, but in reality, she was crashed amongst them less than three minutes later.

1) after X number of tries to actually type the correct there/their/they're I just said f(ooey on) it and used the generic term.

2) I may have a bit of a bias about these things

3) the blue "Sully" and the purple "heffalump" are just stuffed toys, not deformed corgis. (FYI for anyone who's not a "dog person". ;) )
