Also...
Beavers sometimes take down very large trees. We're talking trees that are 16" or 18" across (that's like 43 cm).
One of the more amusing things I've seen is a beaver skeleton under one of the giant trees.
In my imagination, the dead beaver was cheating with the tree-cutting beaver's wife and it was an elaborate murder plot to kill the offending beaver. This way, it looked like an accident.
However, reality is much more tame...
Beavers chew on the tree for a bit and then stop to listen to see if the tree is cracking and starting to fall. When they hear that, they run away. This is not always successful and accidents sometimes happen.
I prefer my version of events.
