Hi-----I am as old as dirt and justm switched from Windows to Mint. With windows I used Acronis Ultra ISO, which was a oiece of cake. After days of repeated failures can anyone suggest a non terminal software (detailed and confusing) that will create an ISO to USB backup. One that I can boot into the USB and then restore the system like Acronis?

It is fairly easy. You boot up with the redo USB stick and select either backup or restore. It also has other features but the use is simple and you end up with a perfect backup, multiple if you choose to do so.
Acronis True Image is not available for Linux but there are plenty of alternatives that runs on Linux with similar functionality. The best Linux alternative is...

Ancient guy here too (comp and Linux newbie) and I hope I'm not hijacking this thread but I see that if one clicks "Disks" (Mint 22.2) and select the disk you want imaged and then the "Drive Options" you can select "Create Disk Image" and "Save In" and select the folder or drive you desire as a target. I would test it if I had a spare drive but wouldn't this work as a back-up, or am I sadly lacking in computer understanding?
