Is there any way to create a disc or usb full backup of one's computer for Mint 22?

For example, your hard drive fails, you buy a new one, restore from your backup and are back to a snapshot of how you were at the time of backup?

Mint 22 comes with 2 options to back up - Backup Tool and Timeshift - neither of these show any obvious indication I can use them to save a full backup externally

I've hunted around a bit and people have mentioned various options in forums - but there's usually further discussion that says, to sum up:
  • It (various solutions suggested) doesn't actually save everything
  • It's complicated and you could screw up your system if you don't know what you are doing

I saw some mention in discussions of just saving the home folder which may or may not be useful, but a few things are unclear to me
  • my home folder is encrypted, not sure if this would present any complications, but when I try copying it over, I get a message that there's a file I am not authorized to copy. No option to enter admin password - happens when I am logged in as admin.
  • does everything really come over when copying home?
  • hidden files need to be selected? I'm a bit worried about what that word "selected" means. If I right-click copy on the home folder, am I not selecting everything within it including hidden files? If not, how specific do I need to get to make it work? (if it were as simple as selecting the home folder, why would they say you have to select hidden files...)
er... Windows will create a full backup. Seems like a dumb, obvious solution would be helpful for Linux newbs and would be built into newb-friendly distros. I feel like maybe I am missing something obvious.

backup tool will do what you want it to do....that's why it is there
You files, settings and the content of the home diectory

Also, Software List......everything installed on your pc

Personally, I use rescuezilla, and have done so for a while now
It creates an Image....which can be verified
It also Restores perfectly....which is the acid test of any back up tool
Fairly straightforward to use...it has a gui on top of Clonezilla....this makes its use damn near foolproof

Rescuezilla

The best app you can make use of on LM22....is Timeshift

Like rescuezilla it uses the ext4 file format....so they can both be saved to the same external drive
