You want to stop a virus on whatever system it comes across first, whether that be a Linux mailserver or a Windows system of some sort. Windows defender is fine from what I last saw of it, it's gotten better over the years.
if you are running a linux server then yes you are correct. but for the regular user which is what the thread was about, then it is a waste of time.

Yeah but if someone wants to have an anti-virus installed on a Linux desktop anyways despite of getting told by people you don't need one on Linux I'm going to recommend Clamav over a paid option because it's free and opensource.

I'll agree on that but it is best to get new linux users out of bad windows habits.

who was vulgar? I must have missed something.

You, in post #19. I edited it and left you a notification that it was edited.

You didn't miss it. Though, I confess, it can be instinct to type various swear words - as I am active on a site where that's the norm. But, I manage to think ahead (most of the time, I'm not sure if I've ever messed up).

Heck, I even use words like 'darn' and 'heck' to avoid typing out freakin' vulgarities.

I speak for myself, but implied vulgarities are fine. They'll let you use "@*%#!" in the daily comic strips, so I let those pass.

still no idea what it was but your site, your rules so whatever it was I am sorry. Just keep an eye on me because I am not vulgar but I am not politically correct and never will be.

You used the 's word' for 'poop'.

Politics is strictly off-limits here, so that should help. We blanket ban all political discussion and that's a brilliant rule for this site.

On my desk are a digital/analog converter (DAC) and a headphone amplifier made by ... yup ... Schiit Audio:
https://www.schiit.com

(I highly recommend their products. In case someone cares, I have the Modi and Magni models, and listen through a Sennheiser HD-650 headphone. Together, they yield exceptional sound quality.)

They're pretty solid kit. I have a retired DAC from them that uses tubes.

Of course the post was really about the company's name.

I know. I was trying to steer us away from giggling like kids at the name of a company that's close to a swear word.

I was pretty optimistic...

Then again, the thread's pretty much 'over'. Most folks who'd want to will have voiced their thoughts in it. So, we might as well engage in our inner child.

Let's get it out of your system... Let's see...

I own a few cars (from Mecum auctions) that once belonged to the Micheal Fux collection.

There's also "Fugging" Austria. That's not what it was called.

Let's not forget Hell, Michigan.

Oh, and before I end this, let me show you M'Diq.

I run a firewall (GUFW) but not an anti-virus unless I connect my Linux to Windowz to transfer some files then I will scan the transferred files to make sure no nasties got transferred to Windowz, infected files may not run on Linux but will on Windowz

Adults should be able to have a dialog without the need of vulgarity

What's vulgar in one country isn't vulgar in another country, where I am from the synonym for crap that starts with an s is not considered vulgar. Here when it gets vulgar people tend to swear with diseases such as cancer.

can I just say this is getting ridiculous. this post was about anti virus on linux and it is devolving into a discussion of what is and is not vulgar and acceptable.

My opinion is unless it is a server you do not need anti virus in linux
Let windows handle its own _ _ _ _ (fill in with what you like).

Parting words on the side discussion... Momma always told me "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"
