Hello everybody, just wanted to ask: Is there any solutions available to play internet radio stations? I want to create dedicated machine which will have headless linux installed. That machine will act like jukebox. From another computer i would like to be able to access into that jukebox via the browser to be able to change radiostation that is currently playing.List of radiostations will be saved(stored) in that jukebox machine. It sounds simple but i haven't find anything simillar. Does anybody knows anything available? Please point me to the right directions.

Thank you.

Thank you for reply guys, i am looking simillar to pyradio but with webGui.

I'm not sure I see the point, because it would seem to be easier to just use the computer you're on instead of going to another, but I don't know your exact situation. In order to use the GUI on the server, you would need to use a remote desktop application, of which there are several, both open source and commercial.

using a browser to do this is not the best solution. I have internet radio playing in my shop all the time. Just use audacious and put in the URLs. It work without the weight of a browser

Not necessarily. I seem to recall that there are at least a few media players that provide a web server. For the life of me, I can't recall their names. You'd connect to them with either a hostname or a local IP address, through a browser. This is also something they can cobble together with anything from JavaScript to Python.

I too don't see 'the point', but never let that stop someone. People have all sorts of strange objectives that I find pointless, but I still like to encourage 'em.

I admit I haven't investigated this. Mostly because I don't see the point. If the computer in use can see the server, it can see the internet, unless there is something else i don't see, and I can't grok complicating things beyond what is necessary. But I also can't see anyone else's setup, nor read their mind.

Now that I think about it, even VLC has a web interface option.

I've never used it. I have no idea if it does what the name implies. If someone is bored and wants to test it, they'd know more than I know about it.

Before hitting the reply button, I decided to test it. It's actually pretty easy. You set it up, complete with a password, and then access it via http://ip-address: port and log in without a username, as it just needs the password.

Shortwave. ;)

Hello,Thank you for reply guys. The plan was: have headless machine in the server rack,it has headless linux install to play radiostation via interfnet in the warehouse. If i want to change radiostatrion, i am remotely log in into that server(jukebox) via office computer through web browser, and choose station i want to play from that server.Ofcourse there is database of radiostations stored somewhere in that server machine. The reason i dont want to play radio from computer i am remote acces from is because if office is closed over the night computer will be switched off. Its easier to have dedicated machine in server rack working 24/7. I hope i made abit clear exactly what i want to achieve.

Thank you.

I believe that VLC will do all of those things for you, but I haven't personally done much testing outside of ensuring that the basics work.
